What's up with DJO? What's with the 70's music? And, where's Charles VanDike? (It seems everyone is getting rid of him. Did VanDike quit the VO industry or something?)

Rodger is just an idiot. How is this going to help? Perhaps if they fixed all the computer problems and recut the spots occasionaly it would help.

I am still not getting the Imus thing. Its his ball and his call, though.

The longer i am in this, the more i believe in consistency. When people tune it, they know what they'll get.

Back in the day, he was pulling 1.1 and 1.2 with the format. That is respectable and you can make a
good living with that, especially when you factor in how rabidly loyal the audience is.

Bear in mind a 1975 graduate is 55 years old. A 1965 graduate is 65.
Ouch...the truth hurts.

By adding the 70's, he's competing with WGRR, WMOJ and WREW. By adding Imus, he's competing with WLW, WKRC, WSAI and WCKY. He was much better off with a unique format. He would have been far better off to fix the stupid programming mistakes, most obvious when Rodger Dodger himself was on the air. Rodger finds it hard to breathe without his nose in Dusty's behind.

spm1036 you have a streak of hate there, you write the same and express your insulting self the same as Moneymaker, could it be one in the same with a new handle ?

I agree about the consistency thing. As one of DJO's "older listeners" I don't want to hear the crap on WGRR. If Rodger tries to compete them them, he can only loose. Folks who tune in to DJO really want to "get" the fifties and sixties oldies, not Looking Glass or Dawn. And just for the record, I don't get the Imus thing either. I must admit, speaking as just one listener, I have listened less since they included those seventies numbers and since Imus has been on.

Its always a balancing act, FRR.
You weight the prospects of what you're going to get (new listeners) vs how many you'll tick off and lose, due to the
changes.

Really the same thing happened with WGRR, but they are still a top-rated station and strong in the 45-54 cell, just like they were years ago, but with music that appeals to today's 45-54. No station can age with their original listeners until those listeners are in the nursing home (sadly)

Border---not the same at all

GRR had great heritage, a good signal, and an awesome mass appeal AM show to help with a significant music pivot---it just took the nads to move the music 15 years younger- Before we made the (very unpopular with the airstaff) music adjustments, WGRR had slipped to 13th 25-54 - when it was swapped to Cumulus less than 6 months later it was 3rd.

Congrats to all of the staff there for making it work and staying relevant--it was not a gimme

My kids really hope that the DJO changes work the same way as they get grumpy when hungry---spoiled ;D rotten!

You're right

When did you leave GRR, Marty? I thought it was long before the music switch and Cumulus swap.

and I find myself listening to WDJO *more*. They've always had a pre-set on my car, but having Imus on gets me to punch them up in the car on the way to work, and I find myself just leaving it there more often. So....lost one, gained one.

Imus sounds good though the automation needs to be a lot cleaner. (Is Mike Huckabee trying to be the next Paul Harvey?) While I don't mind the additional 70's music, there are more artists than Bread, America and Neil Diamond. I am amazed I haven't heard a single Carpenters, Anne Murray, Helen Reddy or Roberta Flack song.

2 stints at GRR-- 90-97 with The Dalton's and with CBS/Entercom for about 9 months before it got swapped with Star-- I relaunched it as Cincinnati's Greatest Hits during that second stop.

Party Marti,

If you are Marti (with the party) Thompson, I must say I am surprised you did not address your boss's actions here on this board. Why did Roger add 70's music? And, why'd you dump MR. VanDike?

You are a jock for DJO. I am an ex-listener. Since Roger refuses to talk to his ex-listeners, I think you should. The airwaves are owned by the public. As a member of the public, I am holding the DJO staff accountable as a caring member of the public would. And, believe me, as an angry ex-listener, I feel you, Roger, and DJO should be held accountable for these changes.

I am verry angered by the changes at DJO. This is a radio station that promised not to be the next GRR. And, what happened? You and Roger and the rest of the staff broke that promise to your listeners. You play 70's music (something the station swore it would never do); you canned Charlie VanDike, and now, I hear, Dangerous Dan Alan is gone. Congratulations on losing a verry, verry, verry loyal listener from outside the area. The best thing for WDJO now would be for the station's ratings to fall so low, it is forced to change format. You, Roger, and the rest of the staff should be ashamed of yourselves. I think that, since Roger doesn't come on this board, and he doesn't return calls from his ex-loyal listeners, I think you should, at least, try to give the people your station alienated some kind of explanation.

Honestly, the person I feel the most empathy for in this situation is poor Charlie VanDike.

Signed
