WDJO: WTH

theradiokid said:
Party Marti,

If you are Marti (with the party) Thompson, I must say I am surprised you did not address your boss's actions here on this board. Why did Roger add 70's music? And, why'd you dump MR. VanDike?

You are a jock for DJO. I am an ex-listener. Since Roger refuses to talk to his ex-listeners, I think you should. The airwaves are owned by the public. As a member of the public, I am holding the DJO staff accountable as a caring member of the public would. And, believe me, as an angry ex-listener, I feel you, Roger, and DJO should be held accountable for these changes.

I am verry angered by the changes at DJO. This is a radio station that promised not to be the next GRR. And, what happened? You and Roger and the rest of the staff broke that promise to your listeners. You play 70's music (something the station swore it would never do); you canned Charlie VanDike, and now, I hear, Dangerous Dan Alan is gone. Congratulations on losing a verry, verry, verry loyal listener from outside the area. The best thing for WDJO now would be for the station's ratings to fall so low, it is forced to change format. You, Roger, and the rest of the staff should be ashamed of yourselves. I think that, since Roger doesn't come on this board, and he doesn't return calls from his ex-loyal listeners, I think you should, at least, try to give the people your station alienated some kind of explanation.

Honestly, the person I feel the most empathy for in this situation is poor Charlie VanDike.

Signed

Sorry, but I'm sure Roger could care less about your opinion since you are not local and therefore do not patronize the local businesses that advertise on the station.

Just another thought. I'm not in the business so I'm not sure how this works, but it probably wouldn't hurt if listeners mentioned to advertisers that they like the old format and that they are less likely to listen, and therefore buy, with what is presently being played. I realize the station has been trying to survive on a shoestring, and I'm sure not trying to sink them, but I just think the folks that pay for the ads may have a greater influence on the managers.

May I suggest taking a breath, RadioKid??? and possibly learning to spell "very"

You're upset because the station changed its imaging??? Charlie Van Dyke's liners and promos had been running on WDJO since they signed on. I think that was...five, six years ago??? It was time to freshen things up a bit. Charlie Van Dyke has been around since Phyllis Diller's first face, so yes...it's entirely possible he retired.

I'm not sure why you think music from 40 years ago doesn't belong on an oldies station, but I'll just chalk that up to personal preferences and leave it alone.

The kid is right, and his passionate comment is the same type that Rodger promised not to ignore when he first started ripping off Marty's original GRR format. Since then he has made change after change to the station, adding sports, adding boring infomercials, adding pay to pray shows, even dumping all music in the morning, and everyone cut hm slack because it was a small station and they were struggling to keep the music format that those guys and their followers love on the air. It is clear that it's not about saving the classic oldies format, but rather saving his station, no matter what is coming out of the speaker. There is less and less music, and even less of the 50s-60s stuff he promised to he would safeguard and attacked GRR on air for abandoning. Defending Rodger & Co. made sense when they were fighting the good fight. Now they are just programming whatever pays this month's bills.

Hi Kid!

I understand your frustration verry much and am sorry you feel betrayed.

We often forget the magic of radio is the unique one-on-one bond between a station and a listener.

As for DJO programming---I'm not the boss, just a dj. I play the hits as they are scheduled- and try to keep it moving and fun-- That is my job--

Might I suggest you check out the Real Oldies Channel on iHeart Radio or try out Richbroradio.com--- 2 verry cool streams!

be well

WDJO sounds great, started listening when I read that Imas was going to be part of the morning's, been listening since, I do not have a problem with the music, I like it, as I grew up on radio in 70's.
Hey BOBO2 ! get a new life and don't be a grumpy old man that you make yourself out to be on these boards, I could care less what you have to grip about, an opinion is OK but trash talking is just not called for, no matter how much you dislike their management, get over it and God Bless You.

What? The Nation's Station no longer plays Percy Faith? No! Why those people on Arlington Street need a swift kick!

Kid and Bobo2, you are right! This is an outrage!

Hey, did you guys ALSO hear that WLW is getting away from LIVE orchestras? They may start playing RECORDED music! WTF?!?!?

I've also heard that WSAI is NO LONGER playing MUSIC! It is my God-given RIGHT to have music on WSAI because the public owns the airwaves, even though the Kid from Oswega is listening online. But, that's not the point!

Did anybody else hear that the government is making NBC Red and NBC Blue split up?

Whatever happened to the DuMont network? I demand answers!

They stopped making the Edsel? What!?!?!?!?

It must be nice to pretend it's still 1961, there are only five radio stations, and things should never change.

Nice talkin' to ya, I-man!

I guess your post is suppose to be................funny?

It sure cracked me up.

Of course, I even get the 'Bill..................................from White Plains" reference.

Funniest thing I've read today, and I'm angry I didn't think of it myself.

To the idiots who keep bashing Roger...STOP IT! He is a highly successful and very hard working media person who put his money into a radio station and is busting to keep it functioning and making money. Critique and give your opinion on the programming if you wish, (I have!) but YOU don't have to meet a payroll or pay the bills, HE does. If you have any actual money making ideas I'm sure he'd love to hear them but I'm guessing you don't. Time will tell how these recent programming changes will pan out but I only wish him the best. As for Charlie Van Dyke, great guy to work with, great voice, but get over your man-crush. The average listener could care less.

I beg your pardon? I don't think i have ever bashed Roger.

Border Blaster,

Do you know something I don't? Where is Charlie doing voicework now? Everyone I know of has canned him:
YNN, KVI (flipped formats), KLUV-HD2, and now, WDJO. Hey: If there's a station that is using his voice, I will listen.

@Party Marti: Thanks so much for the listening ideas. Do you have a website for the real oldies stream on IHeartRadio? I use a screen reader, and the IHeart platform itself isn't verry accessable for me.

Now, Marti, the only question I have left to ask you is why the station canned MR. Charlie VanDike. Yes, I care, and, no, I am not your everyday listener; I'm a radio geek! I do pay attention, and I do indeed care.
