WDJO

The fact that little WDJO commands more commentary than any other station on Page 1 speaks volumes.

That happens on all the boards. There have been a lot of WVKO threads on the Columbus boards; and there's a multi-year thread on the Phoenix board about some little daytimer's signoff times.

iPods have NO personality!
My iPod has more personality than some of the "corporate" stations in the area.

And that is sayin' something.
That's a sad fact of what's wrong with radio today, but I don't feel that way about WDJO, KGVL and WAKY to name a few. ;D

Listening to WDJO, I find it quite amusing that twice an hour they promote the fact that they play OVER a half hour of commercial free music. REALLY? If that's the case, then by my calculations, you factor in 2 stopsets, a news update and a couple of weather forecasts and each hour would add up to about 70 minutes! "The Good Guys" need a refresher course in telling time. By the way, the music sweeps are NEVER over a half hour. They average about 25 minutes, sometimes less.

Oldies 1480 WDJO = Inaccurate Radio

I heard this last night betwee 5:30 and 5:55 pm on Rodger's shift. Why not just tell the truth?

Sometimes i get the feeling that people are just waiting for the little independents to fail. What, just so the
big behemoths can be more successful in raking in more money, with less service to the community?
What, just so these little people can sit back, chuckle and say "i told you so"?
Is this what has become of America?

That reminds me of 8 years or so ago when WBUL 98.1 in Lexington was promoting their "98 Minute Bull Ride". I timed several of them...none were 98 minutes, most were about 80. Doesn't make it right, but WDJO is far from alone in stretching the truth.

You sure have that correct about WBUL. I've NEVER heard a full 98 minute Bull Ride!

What they meant was "98 Minutes of Bull Sh&T!"

This thread is reminding me of the plot line in "Used Cars" - a claim of false advertising about "a mile of cars". In this WDJO case, big deal. It's local radio. After all, they are broadcasting with 5 million milliwatts of pure power! If they want to claim 10,000 songs in a row and end at 8,943 - what's the point? People whining to whine. Get over it. I guess with modern conveniences, they can't do dumpster dives. And this time, I'm bein' honest wit you so enjoy the rest of the record.

Hold on Nellie!

When 1480 WCIN was granted it's license back in the fall of 1864, the FCC granted it a special "time exemption" allowing it to add 8 minutes and 36 seconds to every hour of every broadcast day (with NO pre-sunrise authority)--

Thus WDJO is unique in the market that it CAN actually have 2 full 30 minute sweeps every hour AND run some spots (prior to local sunrise) as each broadcast hour is actually 68 minutes and 38 seconds long...

a nifty feature that lives on to this very (heavy) day ;D

1864??? Oh, wow! So THEY were the station whose reporter asked the bizarre question "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
;)
