WDKN, Dickson

Sorry to hear that. I went through the same thing myself 20 years ago. Had to sell the station and an FM CP just to pay off the bank :(

I hate to hear that, too. I remember the video for "They're Playing Our Song" by Neal McCoy, where WDKN is the station playing the song! They also had "93.7 FM" showing on the marquee with AM 1260.

I've always wondered how "dark" got to be used as the adjective to describe radio stations that are off the air. "Dark" implies something visual, so I'm assuming that it would be a term borrowed from television stations going off the air. Of course, "dark" could also be a reference to "lights out"! ;D

I thought that was the station where the Neal McCoy video was filmed. I believe 93.7 is the FISH now.

I have worked for two stations that were dark at one time or another. One went dark briefly in the mid '90s, well after I had worked there. The other was dark for a while in the mid to late '80s, which was actually before I worked there. Both stations are currently on the air now, as far as I know.

I was the last person out the door at WQSI, in Portlland Tn, back in 1983. The owner whom I never saw, and seemed to vanish when creditors began looking had his "lawyer" call and say "shut the doors..and go home"..IT WAS A LITTLE MORE INVOLVED THAN THIS SHORT EXPLANATION..BUT THE END RESULT WAS i LEFT MY KEY ON THE FRONT DESK WITH A NOTE STATING "TO WHOMEVER FINDS THIS..i HAVE CLOSED THE STATION UNDER A DIRECTIVE FROM STATION'S LEGAL COUNCIL'....ooops..sorry for the caps..bad typing technique..it was dark for several months until Bob Hudson aquired it, called me to return, wrote me a bad check for 200.00(which i still have) for the first weeks work.so i left...I was working full time at sumner county music..so losing the morning sign on til 9:00 thing didn't really hurt..at least i could sleep til 8:30..a friend of mine bought the property at a tax auction for less than a thousand dollars..under law..if you buy property for delinquint taxes and keep them current for two years..the property is yours..in that time the original owner has those two years to catch up all the taxes and penalties and reclaim the property..if not the buyer at the tax sale gets full ownership..at 4:25 pm on the last day of the two year period..five minutes before the county court clerks office closed..a representitive of one of the banks holding a lien walked in and paid the total outstanding amount..over 21,000.00..otherwise my friend (and i)..would have owned the station for less than three thousand dollars..at the time all the equipment, was still in the building..turn on the power, and flip the switch..back on the air..but alas..it twas not to be... :'(
