WDLR 1550 AM is now True Oldies

WDLR 1550 AM radio is now simulcasting the True Oldies format of WQTT 1270 AM out of Marysville. 1550 AM radio has been a Spanish station since
June of 2004. I noticed that this afternoon but the station had been in English for at least a few days now. So, I asked Luis Orozco, who had been operating the station under an LMA since 2004, about the flip in formats. He tells me he is getting out of the radio business and is now concentrating on expanding in Television. It looks like WDLR will keep the True Oldies format but will hire a local Delaware news staff.

I did find this on the web about the future plans for 1550 AM. This post is by Paul B. Walker, Jr.. a radio-info.com poster:

WDLR 1550 AM is now True Oldies
[IRCA] [NRC-AM] WDLR OH 1550 running True Oldies channel, flip with 1270?

WDLR posted a job opening on AllAccess.com looking for reporters, news
anchors and similar positions.. for people who spoke english.

I think 93.3 has found it's niche in format.. I don't see them switching to 60s based oldies helping their cume .. The thing that will hurt 93.3 if anything is the lack of personality now that it's completely Premium Choice and no local talent. We'll have to see how things shake out after the Christmas PPMs are past.

re: 1550 .. It makes sense they put on the same format as 1270... the group that owns 1270, 95.1 also owns 1550 (though they had been LMAing 1550 to a group programming Spanish).

Noticed WDLR is back to a Spanish language format as of this week. Another Spanish group must be LMAing the station again.

Not surprising -- Take some cash to pay for the bills or just run satellite oldies as filler... I am sure as long as LMA checks clear it's better for ICS to at least make some money off running the station.

Wow. They were oldies as recently as Thursday night when I was driving back from work on the north side. I certainly hope WQTT (but it'll always be WUCO to me) doesn't meet the same fate AGAIN.

WQTT has a pretty nice signal daytime, even out to the Reynoldsburg/Pickerington area where I live. I can't hear it much east of Downtown at night. WDLR, on the other hand, I usually can make something out of it at night.

I'm told some group out of Detroit now has a LMA with WDLR radio. This from a reliable source.
