WDNA Transmitter Site(s)

'DNA needs to be colocated with channel six so as to prevent interferrence to channel six. Its why WRGP and WKCP are also there. It is hoped that once WTVJ goes strictly digital on UHF channel thirty one and permanently turns channel six off, those three FM stations will be able to increase their facilities by height or power or a combination thereof. A shared antenna with WRTO (98.3, also on that tower) would be ideal.

Ah, so WDNA will be moving to Dadeland exclusively once Ch. 6 goes dark?
Unfortunately WRGP has no chance of increasing their ERP or height because WIRP and WAYF pretty much have them locked in. Also, WDNA had to go with a directional antenna to protect WIRP so i'm not too sure if they'd be eligible for an increase once 6 switches off, even at (or especially because of) their Dadeland site which puts them closer to Pennsuco than they were in Princeton.

WDNA appears to maintain two separate transmitter transmitter sites, one in Princeton and one in Dadeland, both of which seem to be primaries but operate at different ERP, different polarization and different modes (one HD, one analog.) Any idea why they're set up this way?

Have no idea why the Dadeland site is listed (actually on the DATRAN building). But that was in use long ago, when during Andrew the then-WCIX stick became inoperable...They are now back on exclusively from what is now the WTVJ tower. As for protecting WIRP, they snuck in during the time DNA was over at DATRAN so they must essentially now protect a station that is much newer than them.

The same thing happened to WRGP when Andrew put the original WCIX tower in the dirt. They were going to be 2.4kw at 1700' but after the tower went down WAYF filed for 50kw on 88.1 in West Palm and got it. WRGP is now .165kw mono at 400 ft. Really kind of a bummer.

One of the 'bonuses' for RGP nowadays is a translator they recently put on 95.3 right around the FIU area proper. One of those cases you're having nowadays where the translator probably has more listeners than the primary itself!!
