WDOD-AM Is Gone; Did Anyone Notice?

The Chattanoogan reports today that WDOD (1310 AM) went silent as of Tuesday, May 31.

The station had withstood through many format changes and even tower damage throughout its latter years. The onetime Air America affiliate was airing a sports format under Fox Sports Radio at the time they went dark.

The radio station property will be acquired by a local school.

There were comments about their "aging transmitter". What did they use?
They definitely had a good signal.

I realize this thread is a few weeks old, but I did not catch any references to the transmitter. Years ago I had the wonderful opportunity to work with S. Parks Hall, a Chattanooga radio engineering legend. During those days I believe we installed a Continental Power Rock, to replace the already old but wonderful maintained and operating Collins backup transmitter. Parks used to say, "a clean, cool transmitter is a happy transmitter, which makes a happy engineer." The old Collins was in as-new condition when I was there. Oh the stories I could tell about WDOD AM/FM..... riding around in the car that we inherited from news, aka "creepy" , and on/on.

I'm so sad to read about the demise of WDOD - it brought back a flood of wonderful memories - I was a young 20 or so years of age at that time. I think about those days often, and hope S. Parks Hall is doing well.... there has never been a finer boss/friend/engineer/gentleman than Parks in my lifetime.

May be WDOD AM might come back. I copied this link off the other thread.

I guess they realize this has more value than just the land. Did the land deal fall apart?
