Make that "Five Minutes with Delores Allen" for 53 years....

I did a story about her retirement earlier this year. She had been on the air since Day 1 of the station when her husband, a former Chicago announcer, moved to Door County and the couple started it. They were looking for anything to do to fill airtime, and he suggested she read a couple of recipes that had come over the AP wire. And until April, she didn't stop.

WDOR is an interesting station; it's a real throwback to radio of a couple of decades ago. No "Kiss" or "The Mix" formatting here; it's classic small town news, obits, sports (lotsa live high school, Legion and town team baseball), and the like.

We go camping at Peninsula State Park every year, and we always listen to the Brewers games on WDOR. I've also enjoyed the somewhat eclectic mix of music.

Any info on where to send condolences/memorials in lieu of flowers?<P ID="signature">______________

I am able to DX WDOR-FM often. Love their eclectic mix of music and have cought the Brewers games on there as well. The station is VERY small town sounding which I like. The studio also runs on vintage (40s-50s type) equipment apparently which is why it sounds like they are talking into a can when they go live.

They have the AM transmitter located in the main studio.

If the announcer turns up his level, you heard the fan running!

Never have to worry about high heat bills, but that's why their
studio door is always open in summer!

They use very old mics, too.

A modern operation could make them very competitive, but they're
number one up there always!
