According to yesterday's Hartford Courant, long-time WDRC AM-FM General Manager, Wayne Mulligan, will be retiring as of 12/31.

The stations' Sales Manager (and nephew of Buckley Radio President/CEO, Rick Buckley), Eric Fahnoe will become GM effective Jan 1, 2008.

I hope this brings an end to the nasty sounding audio on DRC-FM. Wayne started out as chief engineer early on, but I think he was actually engineering back when the station sounded good (anybody remember when he was C.E.?).

Anyways, let's hope Mr Fahnoe ushers in an improvement for both these Buckley radio properties.

NERW confirms Wayne Mulligan retirement

He joined WDRC in 1964, moved to WTIC in 1966 and returned to Big D as chief engineer in 1972. Added GM duties in 1991 after the murder-suicide of then-GM Dick Korsen and his wife.

43 years total with 2 legacy broadcasters in the same city is nothing to be ashamed of.

I worked PT at DRC in the 80's and found Mr Mulligan instantly likeable and immensely talented. I guess everyone dreams of "retiring" at some point and I wish tha Buckley group well, but the shoes of Wayne Mulligan will be mighty hard to fill.

Wayne Mulligan was the mastermind behind the scenes at WDRC for years. I would be surpised if Mr. Buckley retains is services as a part-time engineering consultant. Mr. M. knows broadcast engineering like no other!

I hate to say it, but WDRC has sounded MUCH better since he left. (Thanks to Tom Ray) :)
