WDRC-FM is not a MASSACHUSETTS radio station

Yes they should, WDRC ( and other CT FM stations ) has a good signal in Springfield MA.

Never loose sight of the fact that radio is a business. Why would WDRC (or any station) turn down revenue? That said, I recall when I was working at WHYN, we ran ads for a strip club called the Magic Lantern, and I recall hearing some rather questionable ads on WDRC for the Grantmore Hotel.

Marc, why are you so offended by this? You probably don't realize it, but there other board participants that can just see the prejudice oozing from you onto your keyboard. Keep in mind that you have choices (as we all do) and maybe you should consider them. The 2 choices that come immediately to mind are the radio power switch or if that's too drastic, 2nd choice would be the tuning dial (or another station preset button). Is it really fair to knock a station because they are in business?

A station would be in big trouble if they turned down these political ads. I've heard them a lot on MA stations this weekend, and there is nothing offensive about the ads. Lots of advertising money is being spent on both candidates, in what appeared to be a sleeper campaign until it got national attention last week. Yesterday I heard a spot for one candidate being followed by a spot for the other.

It shows up in the Springfield ratings, too, as well it should since Springfield doesn't have an oldies station. Buying time on DRC-FM makes all the sense in the world for the two candidates. I wouldn't expect them to be interested in KC-101 or WPLR, though.

Oh, sure, because the minute you cross the state line into Mass, you lose the signal right? That would be just like saying you can't pick up WMAS, WAQY, etc. Oh, and by the way, WPKX (a Springfield market station) is licensed to Enfield, CT. Are you saying that people in Massachusetts shouldn't listen or advertize on it?

I'm sorry, but your post makes zero sense.

Hartford sits 25 miles from Springfield....why shouldnt WDRC have ads for Western MA? I think the cities of Dallas and Ft Worth are farther away from the aformentioned two cities...and they seem to have no problem as one media market?

The difference there is that Dallas and Fort Worth are in the same state, where these two cities are not.

So you're saying New Jersey businesses and politicians shouldn't run ads on Philly and NY stations? Doesn't leave much left.

Boston stations (TV and radio) reap quite a windfall every 4 years running ads for the New Hampshire Presidential primary. If a given station has listeners in the target area, it's fair game and that station must accept the candidate's ad. WDRC probably has more listeners in the Springfield market than many of their local AMs do.

Sorry Marc, but you're on thin ice with this complaint.

MarcB: I'm going to use AM 990 as an example. I can recall when I used to work there all the political ads we ran from candidates in a city that already had 2 other AM radio stations in their own backyard. That didn't stop them from buying time on AM 990. And I produced spots for one of those candidates using the studios of AM 990. Revenue is revenue anyway you slice it.

So I guess Massachusetts stations should not air Mohegan Sun ads ?
