WDRC Internet Stream

Whats up with the WDRC Internet Stream? When it goes to commercial there is only dead air... I never realized how many commercials DRC plays until now, as coming back from commercial breaks scared me a few time as I forgot I was listening to something as the audio was dead for so long. :)

Seems like its fixed today.

Got to be honest, rather hear commercials then dead air. :)

Well spoke too soon.

Ghrame just played Paul McCartney's Jet, then two PSA's played and now dead air again.

It was dead until Joe Walsh came on with Life's Been Good. (Good tune!)

It looks like it's an encoding problem as the pre-roll advert played and then when it went to the stream there was nada.

It's nice to see DRC-FM streaming but it's too bad the player requires Adobe Flash to work. I've pretty much removed it on most machines due to the security holes it presents (not to mention some tablets don't have it loaded). I know I've been migrating my own sites to audio players not requiring Flash for compatibility across platforms.

It is a good tune but DRC's edit of it is awful. . .

Which is surprising, given DRC's generally excellent record of playing longer versions: i.e. "25 or 6 to 4," "I've Been Lonely Too Long" (back when they could play it; the song has aged out and is on the do-not-play list now), "Let's Get It On."

Grahame looks like you need to kick the computer again.

Now instead of dead air its inserting commercials over the music instead of at commercial breaks. A song will be playing then in mid song it goes to a commercial then comes back mid song again.

Kick it... kick it good. (Sung to the tune Whip it.) :)

Its getting worse now... you are getting 1:30 of a song playing then 2 ads then back to the music for another 1:30... rinse lather and repeat. :(

Its unlistenable now. (Is unlistenable even a word?) :D

They must know about the problem by now. A British listener complained about it on Facebook yesterday.

Yes, unlistenable is a word. My dictionary defines it as "hip-hop." ;D

GRRR...unfortunately the problem is bigger than us. We have a call into the streaming provider to fix it. Thank you for bearing with us!

This is like listening to one of those Time Life Greatest Hits of All Time Commercials, where they play all this cool music... but when you start getting into it the go to a commercial and trying selling you the CD instead. But now you hear a good song then its a PSA then back to another good song joined in progress.

Sounds like it was fixed within the last hour or so. :)

Down again...

Dead air during commercial breaks.

Is there someone I can email / pm when it goes down so I dont have to post it here?

If you're on Facebook, "like" DRC-FM's page and report trouble there. The jocks and Grahame seem to monitor that pretty reliably.

Thanks, I don't want to be a stalker. :) I do know however they don't monitor the stream, so if I am listening and detect a problem I can alert someone to fix it. :)

Sadly, this is how many stations monitor both their streams and HD signals. You would think somebody would put a confidence monitor somewhere in the station where the staff would notice an outage. All it does is make people turn to other signals when theirs go out.

I also monitor WDRC's HD signal as well when I am in the car. (I do have a Accurain HD radio on my desk but I am so high up and inside this metal skyscraper so reception is not too good, which is why I listen to the online stream most of the time.)
