WDRV ANTENNA LOCATION

Unless I'm mistaken, WDRV (the former WNIB) is the only commercial FM licensed to Chicago not located on either Sears or Hancock. Right or wrong?

Has there ever been an attempt to move the 97.1 facility to Sears or Hancock? If not, is there a technical consideration that precludes this?

WDRV should still be on the AON Center at 200 E. Randolph.
Since Bonneville also owns WTMX 101.9, one would
think they would co-locate WDRV at Sears Tower with WTMX.
Perhaps the FM combiner or antenna system has reached
capacity at Sears Tower?

Way easier said than done. Any station could be relocated to Sears or Hancock, but whether or not it's worth it is a whole other thing. I have to think the rent at AON is cheaper, plus the transmission system is a whole lot less complicated, and the coverage is comparable with all the other Chicago FM's. It also helps that 97.1 has 96.9 to the North to pick up any shortcomings.

I'm not sure what the reason was that then WNIB moved to the then Standard Oil Building. I can't find the info on it. I doubt it had anything to do with being directional to the north. Afterall, I believe the now AON Building is the 2nd tallest building in Chicago. But for as long as WNIB & WDRV have been on top of the AON Building; I say it's best for them to stay where they are.

Great station to listen to. You can hear 96.9 WWDV from Zion all the way to Milwaukee. You can hear it until about the airport before it mixes with the Milwaukee dial. Just shows how weak Milwaukee's frequency is compared to Chicago. WDRV was smart to put another outlet in Zion.

On a side note... is the WJMK antenna located at the Prudential Center. I have airchecks from the 1980s that say in jingles that they are live from the Prudential Center in Chicago. Since their studios are there, I'd assume that their antenna is there. Can anyone please clarify this for me?

WJMK did transmit from the Prudential originally when they went oldies in 1984.
I believe sometime in the late 80s or early 90s they switched to Sears tower.

You are correct. I did a search and found that the antenna is on the Sears Tower. They must have moved it around that time.
