WDTL/WRKG Tower Down

The 540-foot tower of WDTL (92.9) and WRKG (95.3) on Highway 8 at the Bolivar-Sunflower County line was dropped yesterday. The tower owner got tired of not being paid rent, and he also got tired of being liable for the lack of lights on the tower. (The power had been turned off months ago when M.R.S. Ventures quit paying the power bill). It's a sad end to what was once a great station.

What's left of M.R.S. Ventures continues to crumble. However, after this, there's not much left to crumble.

As the mighty empire crumbles, you have to wonder what Rusell and his possy are pondering, if anything. What is it that allows clowns like him to distort and destroy viable radio? and why didn't the FCC or proper regulating authority keep at least a close eye on this Rusell character when issues arose of his stations entering jeporady, and why wans't a fire lit under his ass in an attempt to get MRS to comply with standards? It could be typically buracarcy and red tape, but the question marks remain...

Now the question is, "What happens next?" Several viable stations are down, the license holder is in a state of incompetent dispair, where to turn? Why not whack the licenses and begin the process of launching new stations by bidding out the frequncies to intrested parties that can sustian and program a station correctly?

is the land owner looking to sell the tower and any equipment(if worth having)in the xmtr shack? what is the tower's age and condition?

Larry,

What is the status of WDSK? Last I read recently they were sports ala Andy Hodges. Had that bit the dust, too?

They were on yesterday according to readers of D2Football.Com who were speaking of the talk over Delta State's coach getting suspended.

WDSK comes and goes. Several weeks ago they were off all week, but came on in time for the Bayou Academy football game on Friday night, then disappeared again. You can't hear WDSK's 23-watt nighttime signal at Bayou Academeny, unless you leave the transmitter on day power at night. But that's been going on ever since MRS took over.

That 'splains things, then. I got a pretty good copy of WDSK around 3am out east of Indianola on 82 a few weeks back.

Anywho, sorry to see the tower down. It was my landmark that I was almost "in town". Hope they salvaged the antenna and any other useful bits... :(

If you got WDSK at 3 am that far away, it's because they were operating on full daytime power at night. The licensed nighttime power is 23 watts. But nobody ever accused Andy Hodges of being intelligent. It's been running that way for years.

Larry...you have heard the old saying "that what goes around....comes around".....this is absolute proof that It's true!...WRHI in Honduras will be on the air soon thanks to your generosity...and I will watch out for TN. Thanks JBI
