WDUV again.

Was listening last night. After the soft intro into the easy and relaxing music, they play "In the Midnight Hour" by Wilson Pickett. This used to be major crank it up music in 1965 on KHJ or KGFJ. Considering their move into this area and Q105 skewing into much more 60's Motown type music, won't they be targeting the same people? That makes me wonder how Q105 is supposed to do better 25-54 when they play enough Diana Ross and Neil Diamond to sound an awful lot like WDUV? I like that music, but I'm recovering from hip replacement instead of buying a $2000 ticket for the P.Diddy Super Bowl Bash.

How right you are! Q105 was positioned for 35-64 female and that came from the top. Yet ED the GM wants 25-54 numbers playing music that's 40 years old?? Give me a break. You can't get 25-54 numbers playing what Q105 is playing...however, ED, Scott Walker & MIke Cullotta don't know this because they have not done a music test in over 4 years! And until they do a music test, they will continue to get their ass's handed to them. The Q did well for a while, but that was based on talent mixed with the music. Now, outside of morning drive there is no tatent...sorry Scott, and what's his name that's on 3 till 7, That's just the way it is. Lookis like Detroit all over again for Scott...another station down the tubes, lifes ruined all so he could put his mark on the station...is it just me, but does his mark stink or what??

I'll be honest - I gave up on the Q about two years ago. The morning show was good but too talkative for my taste, as I want to listen all day at work. Music does not distract me but talk does. In the car, I would listen to Marvin on occasion. I thought the music became too predictable. Eventually, I switched to DUV and 106.3 for my oldies fix.

Since the change, I have been listening every single day on the ride home from work, switching between the Q and 97X. Today, I played Q all day long today.

Bottom-line, they probably did not have lose the local talent but the music needed an overhaul.

I thought I was the only person who could possibly switch from Q to 97X!!!!!

BUT! I am not so much a fan anymore. The mid-day yells and screams too much for my taste. He sounds like he is just trying too hard....I miss Marvin. And for the music, I heard "Oh Mickey you're so fine" this weekend. UGH!

It's going on a month and anything I might have said about WOMC I retract. They do not sound like WOMC. There is NOTHING Q is doing that needed new jocks. I miss Marvin, Mike, and Jack Miller. (I was never up for the morning show :') If they had kept the same jocks, added more music, and put TK overnight, that would have worked. I have no clue how CBS expects this to improve ratings. I noticed the new staff does not have their name in a jingle like the old staff :-\

All the WMCA "good Guys"did not go all hyper. Just a few

As for WDUV, if they add just a little more Eagles, Creedence, and Wilson Pickett, I don't see how they can keep the "Easy and Relaxing" positioning. I think they are starting to get into mainstream pop music from the late sixties and early seventies that would have been heard on Top 40 radio. Maybe WDUV needs to rebrand as "Oldies Radio" before CBS puts that back on Q.

Have to agree. And also retract comparisons to OMC or, for that matter, Drake stations of bygone days. Q has no warmth. Even a high energy jock should know when to downshift.

These moves have nothing, repeat NOTHING whatsoever to do with ratings. They are all about sheer survival in an economy that has seen radio revenues fall to new lows. What good are ratings when advertisers simply can't afford to buy airtime? The current economic crisis, engendered more than two decades ago by the twin pillars of greed and Reaganomics, has only accelerated the ultimate demise of quality radio programming. It simply is not affordable. If you believe anything the corporate masters or their minions tell you about making changes to improve ratings, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. It's cheap too, being worth about 50% of its value a year ago...

The whole consolidation era was about monopoly power driving up ad costs. While it did so, there was poor analysis of the marketplace... the demand curve for media time has shifted and now the whole industry has to restructure.
