The latest Arbs show WKST with a 9.2 over the legendary, heritage WDVE @8.9

Do you remember another time when 'DVE wasn't #1?

I'm from out-of-state, my relatives live in New Castle & Greensburg, & I'm surprised to see this.

Is there anything 'DVE can do to stay on top - even though the percentage of rating points isn't that much?

Maybe it really isn't an issue, but I'm sure 'DVE always wants to be #1 (who doesn't) & they're both owned by CC.
 
KDKA-AM was almost always No. 1 up until 2005, when they lost Rush Limbaugh to 104.7. As soon as Rush went to 104.7, KDKA's reign on top of Pittsburgh's radio ratings was over.

I think WDVE might have beaten KDKA out for a book or two somewhere in the early '90s when Paulsen and Krenn, and for that matter their format, were in their heyday.

There was a partial book in 2005 I recall when WDSY was part of a 3-way tie for No. 1 with a 7.8 rating, but it only lasted a month.

I've talked a lot about the demise of WDVE in the past and to be honest, I think losing Jimmy Krenn is going to hurt them. When you thought of WDVE, you thought of Jimmy Krenn. For all the talk of how bad the DVE Morning Show was without Randy Baumann in 2010, the station didn't fall to No. 2 when he was gone.

But here's a thought- Three men who were all under 35 ran for mayor of Pittsburgh in 2009. We have new industry with natural gas and WKST is now No. 1.

Can we please now retire the "Pittsburgh is for old people" sentiment?

Eh? Whadda say sonnie.....sorry had to do it :)

But your right, Pittsburgh and surrounding areas will be growing in population for the next 40+ years and it will be of the younger working class of people, not the retiring baby boomers it's going to be an exciting time for any place in a 500 mile area around Pittsburgh.

Also in Ohio County, WV to reflect what I just said, there are 5 hotels/motels being built to temporary hold this flux of new people and they are leasing these rooms for 2 years at a time, they wanted to lease longer but the hotels won't make that long of a commitment, from what I read

and of course since I'm now 50, I'm in the class where I can say "Hey you kids.....get off my radio station"

P4L - I don't think it's just that losing Krenn hurt them, I think it's that his replacement just isn't cutting it. When you toss someone with the name and community recognition of Krenn, people expect to get something awesome in return. As nice as it is to hear Scott Paulsen again, he obviously isn't meshing into being part of the morning show...just as in the Paulsen/Krenn days it was obvious who was in charge. This sounds worse than I mean it to. I don't think Paulsen [or Randy for that matter] is purposely being a diva or anything...just that management assumed two people who worked with Krenn could work together. They don't.

KQV was #2 to KDKA many times. I never saw them beat KDKA in the Arbitron era (from 1966 onward). Can't
speak for Hooper and Pulse in the period prior to Arbitron.

Maybe DVE is suffering from the same problem that KDKA has suffered with for years, the older audience is dying off and they aren't replacing it from the other end. Has KDKA FM ever out cumed KDKA AM or is this a first?

In our first Hooper book in May or June of 1958 we (KQV) beat out KDKA in every time slot except the morning show. No one could dethrone Cordic. This used to bother our morning guy, Chuckie from Kentucky. Anyway, we did it in spite of the ABC block programs we were forced to carry.

Ms., it was great talking with you during your visit to the Burgh. Let me know when you're going to make the scene again and we'll try to schedule one of our radio dinners.

Part of WKST being #1 has to with them having no CHR competition. If another company owned WKST CC would give them a competitor, but lucky for CC other companies let them have CHR monopolies.

Actually it's 8.2 and 7.9.

Aside from that, this is pretty simple on two fronts....

1) Kiss and Star both went up. That likely means a higher percentage of meters were distributed to younger people that month.

2) Baseball is pulling adults over to The Fan. They will be back to DVE in the fall. Actually in August, as soon as the Steelers set foot in Latrobe.
