WDWB Detroit

With WKBD/50 picking up the new CW network, and WDWB/20 moving from WB to independent, any bets that they will return back to the old WXON calls? I still think WXON when I think of channel 20 in Detroit.
______________

WXON actually now belongs to a station in northern Michigan.

Yes and no.

WXON-LP is an LPTV station, so I don't think having a WXON-TV should ordinarily be a problem. Except that WXON-LP isn't in northern Michigan, it's in Flint. And WDWB's signal is predicted to reach Flint. I know full-service stations have interference priority; I don't know what priority they have on call letters; if any. Nor do I know if having a WXON-LP and WXON-TV in the same city is a problem when AFAIK, the LPTV doesn't simulcast the full-service station.

Interesting: WDWB is owned by Granite of New York NY under the sub-entity of WXON License, while WXON-LP is owned by P & P Cable Holdings of Charlevoix MI (which *is* in northern Michigan).
______________

A similar question has been asked about KBWB/20 San Francisco, which is in the process of being sold, along with WDWB.

The person asking on the California TV board said essentially the same thing: "Everyone thinks of TV 20 as KOFY."

My answer here is the same as the one there. I doubt the new owners will care about the station's history. If they change the call letters, it will likely be to something entirely different.
______________

WDWB has accordingly already rebranded to "TV20 Detroit", with an updated logo that retains the existing "20".

Out in Boston, there hasn't been any definite new branding for WSBK/UPN 38, but I found this on their website:

"the station will return to being the very popular, independent station it had been for many years."

Let's hope so!
______________
