We all know it's only 12+, but let's discuss it.

Any comments on the summer book? I've been out of
the city and haven't seen the real #'s yet, but
the 12+ info offers up a few interesting questions.
Been pretty quiet on the Nash-board lately, so
maybe this will at least fire up a thought or two....

1.) Can Citadel get Steve Dickert back for triple pay
and give him SOLE ability to format WKDF and WGFX instead
of letting it continue to be run it in the ground? Look at
how close Citadel's numbers are to CROMWELL'S!!!
And their equipment/signals actually work,
where Cromwell's usually doesn't. Much.

2.) Hard to see the real #'s on 12+ for talk, but can
we finally admit that 3 talks stations aren't right
for this market? Is Plaster played out?

3.) Or three Country FM's? And on that note, not
seen 25+ (but can't wait)--- what about Mr. Sebastian?
Did he blow his horn to soon? Again, congrats to
WKDF. How much longer, Citadel? C'mon. It's sad.

4.) Jack, huh? Gotta love that showing.

5.) Jetfli - I again admit defeat on Lightning.
That's not a question, I know.

I think these questions/comments will actually hold merit
with the 18-34, 25-54, etc. Some stations showed pretty
good. Wonder how WRVW, WNRQ,WJXA, WRQQ and WSIX will look
in the right demos? CR, help.

I dunno, Bob. What did happen? Word on the street
it's all YOUR fault. But you made up for yourself
with the evil, perverted Fan billboards!

let's discuss

And Jack is a solid #1 25-54.

Read it and weep, Jack-haters!!! <LOL>

Summer historically tilts toward out of school kiddies (more time to listen, take phone surveys, and fill out diaries), and we have to take certain showings with a grain of salt. Still there's enough to strenghten the trends of the past few months: The Beat continuing to climb in the absence of head-to-head competition, Jack being a hit in Nashville, the Oldies format successfully revitalized by Cumulus, KDF continuing to slide, and the Fan not being worth the effort of a major player like Cumulus.

> 1.) Can Citadel get Steve Dickert back?

Will it really help? KDF and the Zone need serious image overhauls. KDF really hasn't evolved much since it switched to country, even with air staff changes. The Zone's image is seriously hurt by Fox and Rome, needs to be local in middays and non-game evenings, and needs to keep the schedule on its website up to date. Even if Dickert had free reign, would he be given the budget?

> 2.) Hard to see the real #'s on 12+ for talk, but can

Talk is still doing well 25-54, even though Jack stole some thunder there, too. I expect to see even more talk in the market, as iPods and satellite radio take over music. It's hard to believe, but there are still plenty of syndicated hosts we don't get here. And look what Infinity has just announced for increasing the presence of Hot Talk nationwide, something that's represented here only by Bob and Tom. Also, while Liberal Talk is a dead man walking, I believe Urban Talk could explode and seriously take on Urban music stations. Plaster is a long way from playing out. His numbers are always better during the Fall.

Say what you want, but the Woof's still in second for country. As for Cit, look what they've been up to in the rest of the state. In Knoxville, they moved talk to their largest frequency, separated their sports programming into a three frequency station, and went Earl (the music of which sounds REAL good, by the way) even after South Central went Jack. In Chattanooga, they shored up their talk stations (dumping a lot of yahoo talk) and took their Oldies station to Duke (upbeat country). Over in Memphis, they came up with a new classic rocker. You can bet they're mulling over just what to do for Nashville, beginning with a new top dog. Are there clues in what they've already done throughout the state?

> 5.) Jetfli - I again admit defeat on Lightning.

Unfortunately, their audience is moving on. As someone who once spent a lot of time listening to them, and their Americana station even more, it is sad. But they've become just one more station that keeps the format the owners want, whether anyone listens or not.

You're the moderator. Isn't everything your fault?
Just having a little fun. The Wolf's not your fault,
but I would sure take credit for the billboards....
Edited by tibbs on 10/27/05 04:45 AM.

No, not everything can be pinned on the moderator. I blame the Wolf's demise on George Bush and that time he made the comment, "Sebastian, you're doing a heck of a job." (tongue planted firmly in cheek)

(this is an isolated joke. i don't want this to develop into a political flame war. nod, laugh, and move on. nothing to see here.)
______________

Tibbs take a look at the men 25-54 numbers and you will see that WGFX is the top sports talk station in town. How can you say it is run in the ground and that Plaster is played out? Heck the station is up 6a-12m even with the best of hour 10a-11a and Fox Sports Radio 7p-12m. The Fan is at the bottom of the pile and WNSR is under them. Seems to me Blake and Joe are the ones that are played out. I know all you see is the 12+ numbers but they don't tell the story.

Hard to see the real #'s on 12+ for talk, you and I agree.

but can we finally admit that 3 FM talks stations aren't right for this market? you said it as well, and added AM on.

Is Plaster played out? you answered a question, I like Plaster. Joe and
Blake -- that's a different story. Tired and played out.

I don't think we disagreed on anything. Except, the numbers for
WGFX are hardly exceptional. Niche wise - you are right they are
tops. What would you expect, though. Having seen the real numbers
now, they still need better marketing and imaging. And --- at
least on other FM sports station needs to disappear. But, The
Zone can keep the altered Fan billboards up. Speaking of which,
where are the Zone billboards???

The Party had the best book they've had since 1909, think they'll flip back?

I'm probably way off for everyone else, but Jack hurt the Woof for me. I was really getting into it until Jack came on - I'd listen most of the day because 92.9 (played up front where I work) was putting me to sleep. Then Jack came and they stay on all day long after House goes off at 10. On weekends, it's still a toss up between Woof and Jack, but I still find myself going back to Jack.

Can 3 sports stations make it? I don't think so but then again I don't make that call. Well I guess I do kind of, I can turn my radio to another station like say Jack! Kind of what a lot of people have done (haha) Seems like the fan will have to do something. WWTN is out of the sports game. WNSR is well WNSR. Think we all have seen what a billboard will do but you have to have the product to back them up. Like the Fan boards (hehe) BUT do you think the product will keep them tuned in?
Ok now on to Jack. WOW! Great story! The Wolf is looking like The WOOF! But how long can jack keep it up? Guess we will have to hand around and see.

Ultimately you do make the call! Listeners rule. Good post.

But, you better watch it with praising certain advertising venues...
Those evil Fan billboards are porn, according to some moron at Radio "FREE"
Nashville's open minded viewpoint post. (See post below)

Now we know why that pile of junk is barely on the air. Uh,
like the Fan. Wait a minute. I have an idea for RFN's billboard.
Yeah.

Not so sure I would call them porn but I do ask " What is 106.7 The Fan?" when I see them. Just saying "ESPN" doesn't cut it. Who is the talent? When are they on. I'm just asking. BUT look at Jack. Simple, Oldies, Again simple. ESPN wants to be ALL ESPN and no local. Guess they have to ok the boards before they (espn) will pay for them. I DO think they can tick off a lot of people and thats the last thing the Fan needs to do.

That is the direct quote from some poster named RadioFreeNashville.

Way out there.

As for running ESPN, I agree with you. It's just not local enough and
as the numbers are proving, just to narrow of a format to draw large
listenership, regardless of the signal. I really thought The Fan would
at least have some numbers in the 25-54 M.

They sure gave CC and WUBT the big win when they flipped. Serious
question here...was it hard to sell Blazin' 106.7 as an Urban station
when you could have sold it along with 92-Q? Think they should try
another Urban-style format?
