We are all one step away from this poor guy.... he has great pipes

I saw Ted Williams on Today and learned what a great God-given set of pipes this guy has. Here's hoping that he has fully recovered from his demons and is able to survive all the attention he is receiving.

We are all suckers. Has anyone see this guy's rap sheet. Oh my............ ???

Yeah, the guy has a rap sheet...so he deserves to just stand on a street corner for the rest of his life? The fact is he has a gift and we're better off as a society if he uses it productively. Maybe he'll be able to pay taxes instead of being at best a marginal part of society or at worst a hazard to it. I was very relieved to see that he is getting help and advice from experts who might be able to help him climb out of the hole he dug for himself. I'm afraid the chances are at best 50/50 that this story has a happy ending, but to just say that we're suckers for feeling good about seeing him get a chance and hoping he makes good strikes me as just a bit callous. And FWIW, many of us are way too close (for whatever reason) to being where he was and we should pause to give thanks that we aren't.

I have a good friend of mine who does News for the Local Time Warner News in Southern California. He was Homeless and also a addict and a member of the Black Panthers during his youth-He is now a well respected journalist, Minister and Video producer who does extensive work with Smokey Robinson among others

His name is Ron Roberson

Here is a link to his story--Very Similar to Ted Williams, Everyone deserves 2nd Chance's, Ron got one and has made the most of it

ABC News is reporting that Ted Williams got into a minor scrape with the law in LA last night. Apparently some family argument with his daughter that got heated and someone called the cops. No charges filed yet. He cleaned up well, did you see him with Al Roker?

Ah, but the qua-- ahem-- "Dr." Phil is now involved. All will be right with Mr Williams and his bottle-a-day-intake of Grey Goose Vodka.

Yes sirree....great story indeed. If I'm one of those just "one step away", I'd better head for the liquor store, and crack my daughter across the face to keep up.

Time remaining on the 15 minutes o'fame clock...hopefully no more than 5 or so.

so we just put him on the streets and say "you're on your own loser"....?

No. Apparantly it's off to alcohol rehabilitation. "Lean forward", buddy...get it all out of you.

Any clue who's footing the bill?

"a minor scrape", "alcohol rehab", are you guys reading this? 2nd, 3rd, 4th chances. Ok, the guy caught a break, but again, look at the "new" behavior after the 15 minutes of fame.

Once a thug, always a thug? :-\

"Thug" is a pretty strong word to use for someone you don't know. Obviously this guy has problems, but I really don't like the tone of your comment. If you know this guy personally and can back up that assertion under your own name, do it. Otherwise, you ought to show just a little bit of compassion and, maybe, y'know, wish someone well who's had a hard time. Of course, if you're leading such a spotless life that you're above any criticism that would be different.

Look Mike, no one is dumping on your compassion for a fellow human being...but please...this guy has had chance after chance with great pipes even after all that rotogut and God knows what other chemicals hes poured down his throat.

One reason I cannot take even a few minutes of the cable nets is that they constantly glorify people, many times who quite frankly, don't deserve it.

He's shown over a decade of abusive behaviour towards others, abandoned his children, committed crimes and has addiction problems and found himself out on the street..again, with a talent that should have overcome all that.

Now its off to rehab...again...and I once more ask the question: Who's footing what must be a five figure bill for this?

How about those on this board out of work from this business because of a combination of economic factors, scathingly poor business decision making and outright greed? You really don't see them robbing others, smacking their family members or downing a half bottle of Grey Goose on a daily basis, do you?

Enough with this guy. Let's move on, shall we?

Hey Mikey. I don't have a rap sheet, I never had an addiction problem (except listening to radio) and I agree the media has glorified this. Ok, the 15 minutes of fame are over now...........

Great. Express sympathy for someone who's down on his luck and whadda ya get? As far as overglorifying him? No argument, but that's not his fault. If you also noticed earlier I said that I was hoping whoever was trying to help him would try to make sure his problems got addressed. I absolutely agree there were plenty of reasons the guy was on the street and there's no doubt in my mind that he will end up there again if he doesn't get help and intensive help. Most likely he blows this opportunity just like he blew others. I gave him at best a 50/50 chance of making it and that was probably too generous. It would be a great story if he did, but odds are he won't. That doesn't stop me from hoping he can rehab his life. As far as who's footing his rehab bill...well if he's Drew Pinsky's patient it doesn't take much to figure out who's going to be spilling their guts on the next round of Dr. Pinsky's TV show. Exploitation in the name of rehab is this a great country or what?
