We Need a Dance/KTU format here in Albany N.Y.

I would say everyone thats in favor of a dance station to have wktu's exact format here in Albany N.Y. should email Clear Channel and let them know how we feel that we want a ktu copycat here for dance music. Maybe with some luck if they get enough requests they will turn one of their stations into a dance station with ktu's format on it. Here's the link to email clear channel about it. http://clearchannel.com/Corporate/Email.aspx albany ny really needs a station like ktu right now and clear channel would be the perfect one's to put it here.

I would say that Pamal should evolve FLY 92 from where it is now to a half top40 half dance format.

Clear Channel is in fact not interested in putting Kiss on the dance scene.

I know you people are starving for a dance format, and I think any station should do the research. If they do have mixshows, it should be 4 hours straight without any interruptions (Sponsorship Requested).

Dance stations will show a big number gain if programmed properly.

As much as anyone would want a dance format NO owner in this market would be willing to take that step because they all see this as a ROCK market! They'll play that format in some shape or form to death no matter what!!! And to some extent they are right! The Albany maeket is rock-based because how many times have you heard people in their back-country way say "stop playing that disco crap when FLY or KISS would do a "dance" weekend and then yelp "Rock and Roll all the way, man!" I'd love for someone to have the balls for once to do the right thing and execute a dance format in Albany, but it's a far-fetched notion.
In fact, if you listen to KTU they have evolved in the music they've played to a little more "urban" than dance as they had originally started. And that is the city where there is a bigger contingent of those that would listen to a dance format.

Dance - not FM, XM

I used to love KTU until I began listening to XM's BPM 81. Do yourself a favor and get a Roady 2 for 50 dollars and pre-pay the subscription (you get a discount that way). Enjoy my friend.

Radio is strictly mass appeal and Dance isn't. Even KTU in the #1 market is 60% Urban. If you are a dance lover do not waste your time. Lie's too short.

Re: Dance - not FM, XM

True but the one thing i love about KTU that most dance stations including party 105 don't have and thats the dance music from the 70s 80s and 90s included with todays, thats rare to find and thats why i like KTU a lot more than the others. More dance stations should play dance hits from 70s disco and 80s and 90s with todays dance hits that makes it more interesting and better for the listener plus more variety than the repition of only current new dance hits too.

Re: Dance - not FM, XM

BPMs playlist is too large to list on a website. They do a great job mixing in a lot of backspins (older stuff) with the currents. The mix shows are killer...

The list below looks like a rehash of weekly 33.333333 count down chart from previous weeks.

Did I mention that it's all commercial free!?!

Re: Dance - not FM, XM

Party will occasionally through in an 80's or early 90's dance track, really stay away from the disco stuff, and I'm glad they do because I am no fan of Disco. Not only does Party play more cutting edge dance than KTU does, but they stay away from the stuff that makes me cringe that KTU will play. The disco stuff in my opinion just doesn't fit in or mesh well with a Lasgo or Peter Presta song

Subscription = more diversity

Ivan's post brings up the real advantages of subscription service (Sirius, XM or even cable TV's Music Choice). Revenue and costs have little fluctuation in subscription services (if there is any fluctuation, it's from revenue growth). With that kind of profitablity, it is easy to provide a broader range of service. Also, because the listener base is not limited by geography or transmission range, the demographic base for subscription services is greater.

If you want the best specialty programming, it isn't to be found on FM's mass-appeal formats. Get a subscription service ... spring for the few extra bucks to improve your listening pleasure. Or program your own music on CD's, MP3's, tapes or any other media you prefer.

Years ago, in the 60's and 70's, everyone was sure that "Pay-TV" would kill the movie business, Broadway and television. Maybe it will someday if film, TV and Broadway don't continue to evolve. FM Radio, on the other hand, still has not found a legitimate way to battle all the personal listening choices make music easily accessible beyond the radio. And without the blasted commercials.
