We need a dance station here on the coast

It would be cool to start a dance station on FM here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. There are way to many Talk and Sport stations around the area. I don't how well it would work but never know if don't build one!

Don't see it happening. The closest that could happen is either a rhythmic or rhythmic-leaning CHR or something similar to 107.3 the Groove in Pensacola before it shifted to CHR.

Back in the 70's, I hosted what was then considered a "Mix" show, although it was called "Disco" back then. It was on the mighty 1490, WLOX radio. It lasted about six months. Hard to get anyone to advertise except for bars and that didn't pay the bills.

A station on the coast or just about anywhere with that type of format is a very tough sell to advertisers. It's a niche format that has barely worked in a few markets in the US.

The closest thing you could probably hope for is a dance leaning CHR or an 80s/90s dance rhythmic AC station.

There was the Energy stations in Chicago and Phoenix which are long gone. NY,LA, and SF has also had commercial FM dance stations come and go. There is KLBU in Santa Fe which is a Dance/Pop station.

I would like to hear Cannibal Corpse on FM but it aint gonna happen. I cant see a commercial BPM type station anywhere. Let alone the Ms coast!

It doesn't work in big markets and it won't work in Mississippi. There's not enough of a listener base; even if there was, no one besides Red Bull and clubs would advertise on it.

I would stick to the iPod or online stations.

Very true. Format has small loyal following. Hard sell to advertisers.

except in party towns such as say LV or NYC, Dance doesn't work too much as it's a niche format to a niche group of listeners who don't want to hear ads and would probably listen more to sat radio or online anyway

dance party saturday night late shows I can see on a CHR but we talking 10pm and later

But as smashedcd and others stated, there are a lot of music out there, and other than some specialized shows that run in the wee hours , most of the formats will try to appeal to the most of what local listeners want hince so many classic rock and country stations
