We need ESPN in Columbia, SC.

Since 93.1 dropped the sports lineup, we can't get ESPN except via satellite. Any news?
We lost it here in Greenville but I'm not missing it all that much. The ESPN app is $3 and I listen on my phone or tablet.

I've heard that Next Media and Qantum in MB have inquired about ESPN Radio. The problem is, which of their stations would they put it on?

Apparently, ESPN is just too demanding when it comes to what each affillliate HAS to air.

Now that there are so many other options (even though Fox Sports really is pretty bad) ESPN has to become more flexible when it comes to local programming.

But they wont budge (at least so far)

Gordon is right. They won't budge. Too many clearance requirements and they want affilate fees on top of that? An earlier thread mentioned how you just can't make money with ESPN radio and I think that's an accurate assessment. ESPN is still the leader but unless they get a handle on this they could continue to bleed affiliates. A slow bleed, but a bleed nonetheless.

So what is 93.1 doing, now that it's not ESPN?

And which Sports network is WXBT 560 affiliated with? Are they still Yahoo?

107.5 WNKT dropped Fox Sports for CBS Sports, since owner Cumulus is a partner in CBS Sports. Add NBC Sports and it's amazing that there are now FIVE 24/7 Sports networks available to local Sports stations. I don't know how ESPN can make so many demands on its affiliates when there are many other networks to choose from.

93.1 is a music mix type format of classic rock, classic hits, adult AC, beach, etc.

560 put Fox Sports back on when WNKT dropped it.

I dont know either. Which is why it might be a good time to think about a switch.
The ESPN 'brand' still carries more weight than the other 4 ... combined

ESPN overall has been mismanaged. They may still carry more weight right now, but people are turning on them.

Look at the Te'o story. They had it 10 days and did nothing with it.

It's a shame we have to settle for that crap on 1440 in Greenville. Market #60 and that's the best we can do? I wouldn't mind hearing ESPN on 1070/94.9 instead of more Espanol (we don't need 2 Spanish stations, I don't see the demographics are there).

ESPN Radio has its flaws, but it is still king. The only one of all of these networks that poses a threat to them right now is CBS (it sounds pretty good and is getting a good amount of clearance). Fox Sports is terrible and Yahoo isn't any better. I don't see anything in this NBC network coming this year, they don't even have any major affiliates and are a little late to the party.
