We Need More Rhythmic AC Stations Nationwide

These stations are hard to find and I just wish there were alot more of them around the country.
They have the perfect combo of new and older music and with a dance-lean.
I love the sound of 93.9 MIA (Miami) & MOViN 107.7 (Norfolk VA). Those I could leave on all day.
I wish WKTU & WISX went back to sounding like MIA.

I don't understand why they seem to be dropping off left and right, as WDTW just did this week.
It's pretty much a 50/50 split CHR/Dance type of station, and I know they can do very well in the ratings.
I hope we get to see more of these type of stations, like with the WMIA sound, especially near me in the Upstate SC/Charlotte area.

I agree I like the format but it gets burned out real quick. Playing a mix of 70's-current hits doesnt always have a winning recipe. These stations main target audience are women. We had a bloom of Rhythmic AC stations in the mid 2000's but most of them are now CHR, Rhythmic or something else. The Movin stations are on their last lifespan. Clear Channel seemed to give the format a try but all it was doing is overlaping with their CHR stations in the same market (WDTW in Detroit). WKTU is beating Z100 in New York. WISX is really confused either Hot AC or Rhythmic. WMIA in Miami sounds okay but its too repetitive.

I agree 100 percent. I love the Rhythmic AC sound because they play so many great dance hits (especially from the '80s and '90s) that no other station plays at all. I was on vacation in the Miami area last week and had a chance to listen to 93.9 MIA. LOVED IT!!!

Regarding WDTW in Detroit, that station sounded best in its first few months of existence (September through December '09). Then it started becoming more and more CHR-ish. In its last 6 months or so of existence (May-ish through November '11), they started adding some of those classic Rhythmic AC hits again. Very sad.

WMIA in Miami sounds okay but its too repetitive.

MIA is the best of all CC RAC stations. It actually plays the songs that tested well in Miami. It also has a great selection of 80's/90's crossover hits (you even get the occasional freestyle song or that rare gem like Diamond Girl, or Mandolay), and it has just the right selection of current hits for the format. I don't know who is in charge of the playlist, but they understand the format.

The biggest issue is the currents on RAC stations. It needs to be a well know current or the tune out factor will hurt that station.

A list of about 550 songs also helps too.

Miss these songs

-Point Of No Return-Nu Shooz

They are great songs, but the in general your average listener won't remember them. They were minor hits back in the day, and got very few spins.

I noticed that most (but not all) RAC stations starting biting the dust when currents took over the playlist.

The orignal (Movin) 92.5 in Seattle is now CHR based too. I agree I like WMIA as of now. The format fits Miami very well.

I bet I brought you way back with those songs though?
