We need more talk

How is Philadelphia the biggest market with only one Talk station?

Julius is right that WPHT is a joke. Beasley should flip Wired back to WWDB and give us a REAL choice for Talk. IQ was never going to work with all the syndication.

Make it a mix of what WWDB was and Free-FM did for younger listeners. Don Geronimo is going to be available, Matt & Huggy could be brought in. Then get a couple political guys and maybe Loveline late at night and you got a real winner.

we need another option for talk. I wouldn't mind if Philly would be without a talker for a while if PHT flips and then maybe Clear Channel or someone will launch a better talk station, than 1210 WPHT.

Why would CBS flip it if its the only real Talk station in town? I don't think most people know 990 exists. Maybe people don't want to hear all politics all the time?

Ratings and CBS should not be spending money on a station that is low rated especially on a station with a huge signal. a station like 1210, should not be in 19th place. WCAU-AM flipped in 1990 because it was in the ratings basement. PHT could have been in the top 15 at least, had they not made all of those changes, starting in 2011 and Hiring guys like Dick Morris and Buzz bissinger.

We have another talk station. WNTP.

We had a third. It didn't make it. That's why we have two now.

First off, shout out to johnnyfuerte for distilling down the julius posts into a single coherent topic I think we can all get behind. CBS is content to let 'PHT languish so long as they have "heavy-hitters" Rush & Hannity to ensure their ratings are through the (basement) roof. I unfortunately never got to hear WWDB's talk offering but fwiw I was glued to Free FM. Matt and Huggy transitioned so so so well to talk (as demonstrated by their podcast efforts after they were fired) and it's a shame they didn't get another chance in the market. Huggy eventually went up to Boston where he cohosted a politically slanted weekend show for a few years. They would be a great option with market recognition. Loveline is great in that, at it simplest- it's live, informative & compelling radio from 1-3am (on the east coast).

We KNOW that CBS is capable of doing reasonable, rational, entertaining current events discussion with what WBZ-AM does in (ironically enough) Boston during evenings and overnights (even WEEKEND overnights!). It kills me to bring up WBZ with how badly CBS butchers the format here. Bradley J could EASILY be piped in for some interactive overnights here along with his duties on 'BZ, but clearly CBS Philly has no plans on giving us a proper local talk station.

Honestly the only group I could see trying it here is Radio One with how "meh" 107.9 & 100.3 have been since... forever.

its sad that CBS is ruining 1210. do you think that Clear channel will blow up one of their FM's here in Philly to launch a proper news/talk format or perhaps sell one of their stations to buy WNTP?

we understand you have a Passion for radio But to sit there and say CBS has no idea how to run wpht is insane
why not try reading the posts on the board for awhile obsessing over wpht is only going to get you booted out of here trust me i have made mistakes a few years ago and i got what i Deserved but i learned how to behave around here you gotta stop being so Itchy tirgger happy when it comes to posting its only gonna make things worse Think about what you are gonna post before you hit the Post button

It would be nice to see a different kind of talk station, but it ain't happening. Not anytime soon. And CBS isn't flipping 'PHT. All this "fantasy PD" nonsense is just that, nonsense.

WWDB was great. But that sort of thing just doesn't fly anymore. It's a sad reality, but that's what it is. Reality.

WPHT makes money for the company. Period. End of discussion. Ratings don't matter. Money does. Radio is a BUSINESS. They're not in business to please a bunch of people on a radio message board somewhere.

You guys want more talk? Try WHYY-FM. No right wing wackos. Just adult talk about serious issues, discussed thoughtfully with no hype or craziness.

Maybe, just maybe, one of these days...we'll have a thread without someone using the word "wacko".

Who am I kidding? That'll never happen.

Just because WHYY hosts talk in hushed tones doesn't make their discussion more "adult" or "thoughtful". It's just different.

That's what this thread is about. You can use whatever word you want. The point is it's not WPHT. So there IS another talk station in Philly. The posters in this thread apparently don't know about it. They'd rather rant continuously in dozens of threads about one station than simply trying another station. It's really very simple.

WHYY HD-1 and 2 is so downright Liberal and Democratic its insane, it makes the defunct 106.9 look like Radio Disney.whyy.jpg

And if you really want to hear, pure venom/hatred spewing talk you can always tune over to 900AM, you will sure get your share of one-sided cry baby forums...wurd.jpg

I do listen to WHYY, a great deal actually. BBC overnights, "Tell Me More", "Here and Now", mornings split between KYW and "Morning Edition". To give credit where credit is due, guys like Limbaugh are great broadcasters in that they can be entertaining. NPR can get sleepy. Limbaugh keeps you awake. Matt & Huggy kept you awake. Ron & Fez could keep you awake. Bradley J keeps you awake. Big O & Dukes could keep you awake, and I'm sure Don Geronimo can keep you awake too.

The Limbaugh presentation is great, it's just the content I'd like to see broadened. Does anybody know of anyone doing that anywhere? And don't give me podcasts. I'm not here on the RADIO boards because I'm big podcast fan.

And fantasy as it may be, I don't think we're here to sit around with our thumbs up our butts and fawn over our favorite wacky morning DJ's. I don't find any issue with picking apart the talk offerings here in town any more so than if there were a CHR or Rock thread doing the same.

Also how/why does Hot Talk only work in Florida?! Is it the humidity?

Which is why they need to change. More Glenn Beck. TheBlaze is the most popular radio network in America right now. Why isn't CBS running it on WPHT? If it's a business, they should be carrying programs that people want.

I tried listening to WHYY for a while, as some posters here suggested. It was confusing. I wanted to hear about Benghazi and they didn't mention it once in over three hours. Some of the hosts said nice things about 0bama, and others didn't. And for a station that's supposed to be communist radio, why weren't they telling me how awesome and strong Putin is? It was boring. I'm glad I have Dick Morris to tell me what to think. That's good radio.
