WEAE Pittsburgh Host Fired For Ted K Remarks (Take Note, D&C, etc.)

For those who haven't heard, WEAE Pittsburgh PM Drive host Mark Madden was fired for making remarks about what a shame that Ted Kennedy wasn't assassinated instead of having a brain tumor. Watch that Disney/ESPN-owned station dive to a bleep-stained 1 rating now, if they're lucky! (Go to the Pittsburgh board to read the reaction over the firing.)

Its relevance to the Boston area: why WEEI, of course. The station has AM Drive hosts who routinely compare blacks (African-Americans to those who are politically correct) with escaped gorillas as well as PM Drive hosts who repeat opinions as news (i.e. Pete the Meat repeating ad nauseam that 90% of the Revs' soccer fans are illegal aliens). Take away the AM and PM Drive hosts, and I guarantee you that WEEI goes down to a 1.5 rating just like that - in line with most other sports radio stations in America! (Providence's sports station was about a 1.5 pre-WEEI-FM, and now it's an oldies station plus an FM repeater of 63 PRO-AM.)

Let's hear from the peanut gallery out there! ;D

Amazing. In just one post on this board, one mention of the "Metco gorilla" suddenly morphs into "routinely." That's some magic you got there. There's a name for that magic, but we're not allowed to post it anymore.

Hint: This is talk radio. First rule: Be entertaining. Generate buzz. Make people talk about you. Second rule: Facts are secondary.

Looks like they reeled you in.

If it's as accurate or knowledgable as the rest of your post, you'll pardon us if we don't hold our collective breath.

Take away the AM and PM Drive hosts
And why would that happen: because they make stupid remarks? As long as they can avoid making listeners sick like the above, they aren't going anywhere and the stations good times will roll.

Um... no. With perhaps the exception of Glenn Ordway, take away every single host on EEI and replace them with an intern from a local high school and the ratings are just as high. Rabid sports fans. Powerful signal. Weak signals on ALL competitors. Thats why WEEI is successful. The hosts have very little to do with it. That's why the ratings are just as high when one of the hosts is sick or on vacation.
