WEAG/Starke

I think I know the answer, but I'll ask the resident Engineers on this board anyway...

Could WEAG move closer into Gainesville?

(and yes, I know WEAG once applied for 106.9 when then WDFL was on 106.3 in Cross City but was denied.)

I'm not an engineer; However, I was told by one of the best broadcast engineers WEAG-FM can move slightly closer to Gainesville.

Regarding Dickerson Broadcasting applying to move WEAG-FM from 106.3 A to 106.9 C2, that occured after WDFL-FM 106.3 [now WKZY] Cross City was already granted its current 106.9 C1 facilities. The FCC approved the WDFL-FM upgrade in 1989; however, it took Duane McConnel until 2000 to construct the new C1 WDFL-FM facilities at Trenton. If memory serves me correctly, Dickerson contended in the mid 90s, since the C1 facilities at Cross City had not yet been constructed, the public would be better served by allowing WEAG-FM to upgrade to a class C2 using the same 106.9 frequency.

The FCC eventually denied the Dickerson request and left the WDFL-FM CP in place with McConnel.

How MUCH closer to Gainesville and what would the height/power situation have to look like?

This post is just wrong... but I can't help myself. Here goes.

The Starke radio station should brand it's self as "Old Sparky, 106-3, Starke - Florida, The Buzz."

And what about call letters for Starke.. WZAP, WDIE, WDOA, you get my point.

yeah, I know there's already 100.5 "The Buzz" but ownerships could change and the signals could simulcast... or spin off the harder stuff to 106.3 and make 100.5 more Rock than Active.

Sorry... but I couln't help myself.

Fairly close with a COL change; However, it would remain a class A due to possible short-spacing issues with co-channel WJQB 106.3 C3 Spring Hill. Second adjacent WCJX Five Points [Lake City] and WOKV-FM are also preventing a class upgrade.

My understanding is years ago, around 1978, Larry Edwards, who then owned WDVH-AM 980, made an offer to acquire WEAG-FM [as WPXE-FM at the time] from the original owner with plans to move it closer to Gainesville as WDVH-FM.
