weaker then user sound of smaller AM's ?

I've noticed the last few days that stations such as AM 1530 WCKG, AM 1510 WWHN, AM 1470 WCFJ and other stations like these are sounding like a part 15.

These stations never perform well in my location, this is different they sound much more muffled. During CH in the evening I can only hear a slight sound under the big guns. It is not even loud enough to make out. WCKY, WMBD and WLAC own the frequencies.

It is like they perform in winter months, has anyone else noticed this? If it was just one I would suspect a problem with it being a few stations I am wondering why. Is something with the weather causing this? Is there a certain condition that only happens rarely causing this? I can't remember this happening outside of the cold months to this extent.

These are all small stations and they are never good quality, this is different however, it is almost like they are not even there at all. This is in the early afternoon and especially during the afternoon CH times.

WAIT, WAUR and other weak stations on the low end are normal. Do you have any idea what is causing this?

Yes, would you believe 880 WCBS in NYC often clearer at night than 890 WLS here in Lake County IL on a tabletop clock radio.

WCBS has always had one of the best night time signals into Northern Illinois. In Lake County Il, and where I live in Northern Cook, we're very close to the WLS cancellation zone. I also get some fading on the WLS signal at night since their tower is located farther from us than the other Chicago 50KWs.

I work at WCBS 880 in NYC. I can verify that it can be heard at night in some parts of northern Illinois, and absolutely booms - almost like a local - into parts of central Illinois. This is especially true on cold, clear nights...although the nighttime 880 signal booms into central Illinois year around.

I have picked up the nighttime 880 signal in northern Iowa. Not real clean, but identifiable.

WNWI made it into the southern reaches of Minneapolis back around the 1st of August. It was battling near local KYMN-1080 and often winning. Looks like their DA works well, and no sign of either WTIC or KRLD.
