WEAKEST Commercial FM Signals in New England..

Yes, WINQ was pretty bad. I lived in Worcester for years and never knew the station existed until we went furniture shopping in Winchedon. I think that was back in '85. They went by "Wink"

WGMT although it's got height, it is only 600 Watts.

Got to disagree on 97.7 WGMT. It seems like this was the only station besides WHOM and WPKQ I could get driving route 3 from Littleton up to Colebrook. Always seemed like a strong signal. 99.1 WNNH was always good too. I have to disagree with the previous poster on that one. I picked it up up I-93 all the way to Franconia Notch.

OK, How about 101.3 WYKR in Haverhill/Woodsville, NH? Dismal signal! I always thought 96.7 WLTN Lisbon was always pretty sad too. and 94.3 WBEN in Bennington, VT.

As they say, it's not the power, yet the height of the tower.. WBTN-FM in Bennington is one, kind hampered by mountains going east, and north, and short spacing harding towards Albany.

Jamie...600 watts at that height = 25,000 watts at 328 feet.  They are a C3 station, where as your station is not even a full A.  I cannot even calculate your station because your tower height is below average terrain.

what do you suppose makes WWLR go out so far? I have always wondered how the FCC does the HAAT. the reason why I asked you have the white mountains to our east and the Greens to our west. both are about the same distance 20-50 miles from here depending on your location.

WWLR is still about 3000 watts almost atop Vail Hill.. It's still up there pretty high, albeit it's not as high as Burke Mountain. The signal goes a lot better towards the east towards Littleton and Lancaster than the west towards Hardwick and Danville. Burke Mtn does block the signal though.., that's why it comes in so crummy in the condos there.. The LR' signal is fine for what it is, and was the first local FM signal to serve Lyndonville, St Jay, and Littleton by about 3 years.

I still think overall 97.7 in Winchendon had a better signal at the old ATC site than the new Fitzwilliam site, except in Keene where to Saga, it matters most. The move was a huge improvement in Keene but the signal doesn't even exist near Athol or west anymore.

In the late '80s I used to be able to hear WINQ 97.7 (weakly) in Arlington MA, six miles northwest of Boston, when 97.7 in Brockton (then WCAV) occasionally went off the air late at night. WINQ was an automated oldies format then.

Has anyone mentioned WORC 98.9 in Webster MA? Accoding to Radio Locator the signal is weak in Worcester only 18 mi away. In Northbridge, MA about 15 mi E,the signal is weak. At the same time the signal goes about 35 mi South into CT along I-395 so maybe topography is the issue.
Too bad as the music isn't half bad.

I wouldn't consider that a bad signal, just a topography issue. WORC is listeanble almost to the Cape, which is pretty good for a class A signal.
