WEAN (99.7) to Flip to ALL NEWS

Total speculation. It's a poorly written article with flimsy sources at best. There's not even a clear tie that Cumulus actually registered these domains.

As I read the article, there are a few other stations scattered accross the country on 99.7 that Cumulus owns. So the All News format could be going to one of them. The only one who knows which 99.7 they are talking about is Cumulus.

Now that read your reactions and the article again. It seems I jumped the gun.By reading the article it appears that cumulus does want to invest alot in this project. My first thought was 99.7 showing low numbers. This could be true if people are writing in WPRO AM and not 99.7.So to someone out of the area and not familiar ON PAPER it could appear that way.I'm guessing.
My other thought was WEAN calls were associated with ALL NEWS back in the day.The other thing I noticed was a number of the stations rumored to go all news are FM's.So I'm thinking they want to invest in their FM's over the AM's is why 790 am is not on the list. They could be picking the lowest rated FM's in each market to launch this new NEWS Format. So again 99.7 would fit right into that criteria. Now with ALL NEWS.You have to increase your staff. What does that say about the on air line up on WPRO.By reading the article some ALL NEWS stations will be all news till 10 am.A talk show from 10-2.News from 2pm till 9pm or 10p talk again 10pm-5 am or something like that.MAybe a 50/50 mix of talk and news over the weekend.

I'm thinking something like this

IF only I was forced into a format.I would try this.

5am-9a. NEWS
9a-12 John Depetro he ruffles feathers and that means ratings focusing on the days news.
12-1p NEWS
1p-4p Matt Allen
4p-10p NEWS
10p-5am Syndication

Just toying with some thoughts. Both Hosts would have heavy news related talk with open lines to bring in callers on the days topics. Not to far from hat they are doing now.

Just a note, there's no more "writing" in the Providence-Warwick-Pawtucket Arbitron market, it's all PPM. Each station, WPRO (AM) and WEAN-FM have their own PPM encoders (The stream also has it's own encoder.) That helps in the breakdown, you can see exactly where every listener is listening. We don't see that breakdown in the publicly released numbers, we only see the combined 6+ share.
