Wease should be on one of our East Side stations

Again....Pleeeze put Brother Wease on one of the local Clearchannel stations, he's funny. He also beat Howard Stern in Rochester. I dont recall him ever being on a Syracuse Station and I have been a fan/pro here since the 70's. Sure would be fun to laugh in the car again with people in other cars looking at me funny. Maybe Ill choke on my egg-a-muffin.
BTW....Whats with the "Been there, done that" ive been hearing, mostly in the galaxy, for years. Didnt we learn that it's the right people and not whether you have tried it or not? Whats wrong with trying twice? You can ride a bike I hope. Anyway, I bet its a good time for Brother Wease in SYR. Wonder if Clearchannel can remember Sterns Numbers? Wease is BETTER, and though a Democrat, he knows how to sound upstate conservative.
There, I feel better.

A few years ago CBS (then owners of WCMF) tried to market Wease in Buffalo. I was sent to Buffalo by my company to see if the station he was advertising on was worth spending money for advertising. So I did some research and Wease didn't do that well in the Buffalo market compared to long-time personalities and eventually he was off the air.
Speaking of Wease Channel 8 in Rochester hired him as the host of a late-night TV show years ago and the program bombed. It lasted a very short time.
IMHO the only reason Wease was brought to the FOX by Clear Channel was to try to salvage that dying station. I admit he is bringing in some listeners and will continue to do so, but unlike his heyday, there is competition for him this time from his former co-workers at WCMF and some other stations. Plus remember the market group Wease is looking for is downloading music to IPods or playing CD's.
Some radio insiders say that the reason Clear Channel hired that comedian side kick for Wease is to replace Wease in the near future when his contract expires. No offense, but the guy is over 60 and how many over age 60 jocks are their left on the radio these days acting like they are back in high school and managing to keep an male audience between 25-54?

Wease's failure in Buffalo was mostly because of his illness. Just as things got started he was diagnosed with the sinus cancer. Up til then he was doing ok and starting to find an audience in Buffalo and Toronto. But... I really don't see him fitting in on any of the C. C. Syracuse cluster stations on their present formats.

Actualleeeeee... Wease wasn't ever on the verge of breaking through in Buffalo. Cancer had nothing to do with it. He wouldn't have made it even if he was healthy because his show was so Rochester that it never struck a cord with Buffalo. Some folks listened because of the, ahem, unusual nature of the show, but "on the verge?" Uhhhhhh...

No.

Here's the answer. His show was taken to a bigger market instead of a smaller market. I can think of a few signals Clearhannel could try him on, FM or AM. Either way, broadband is coming to cars soon so just click on 95.1. He is in a "Building" mode and sounds great lately.

Wease is in his 60s, and is probably 2-3 years from the end of his career. Why should anybody in Syracuse pick up the show knowing that they'll have to replace it in a couple of years?

Better to build an audience for a local show that will be around for a while. Those who want to hear him can get him on the Internet.

Not exactly. First, it's a good middle between Syndicated Nationally and Regional that upstaters may identify with. Regional may very well be an answer to "why you shouldnt syndicate". Second, I can hear the Wease broadcasting easily until he is 90, like Paul Harvey. Besides, why wouldnt Paul Harvey news and comment still be on these days? With all of the press, his fill-in may have a chance at keeping a good thing going. Keep the name "Brother Wease" and let one of his relatives take over. I'm gonna email this post to him and his crew so there may be a reply. Im sure he is used to having people talk about him, but talking about him after he croaks? Now there's some comedy.

Anyway, It may be a good way to springboard a regional thing. Clearchannel is perfect for that.
