Weather 6-19-07 in the overnight hours

well once again I will have to give it to Renda boys and that overnight guy at KRXO going on all the stations and running channel 9. EAS ran on the other stations in town but no one was home.

Having tornatic activity at night is a HUGE nightmare for getting information out the public. Even those that have media on at night may not get timely information due to the fact automation has prevented a live operator from relaying the information. I personally think all stations aught to at least relay tornado warnings, evacuations, etc. automatically via the EAS box. The FCC hasn't made it a requirement, so many don't. At night the information just isn't there on many outlets. That's a shame... It's certainly NOT in the public's interest.

The good news is in a way local media can be bypassed, just like true music listeners are doing with XM and Sirrius. Radio Shaft sells a fine radio for 70 bucks http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2170274&cp=&sr=1&origkw=weather+radio&kw=weather+radio&parentPage=search that can be programmed to only fire off the really important stuff for an area and not sound an alert for the B.S. Nights like the latest mess is just the reason I have one.

;D

You make a good point. I have to give props to Cox Tulsa for using EAS. During Sunday afternoon (while in automation), EAS interrupted KRAV with a tornado warning south of Tulsa.
