Weather Channel 8's

I just caught the TWC's "local on the 8's" this AM on the local cable. It seems they have updated or degraded the graphics (matter personal taste) and now their "sampled" voice for the computer to read the forecast sounds like Jim Cantorie with a cold. Aren't they putting a too much emphasis on Jim? Wouldn't one of the PHD's in meteorology be more creditable to be sampled for the local forecast. I was thinking of the Dr. (can not remember the name) the came up with the "TORCON" index.

* I am guessing on the spelling. I have nothing against any of the folks at The Weather Channel, just wondering if any body knew why these changes happened.

They have a new CEO so maybe they will get back to the weather and stop all those "How The
Wind Blows" shows...............I'd suspect that's what got rid of the old CEO.

well, they keep adding more reality crap (guys who maintain wind turbines! how exciting!!) and it's annoying to have to hunt for weather on the Weather Channel.

Usually, I just turn to one of the two local weather subchannels. At least, they do weather 24/7.

But hunting for weather on TWC is the same as hunting for hard news (rather than opinion) on CNN/Fox News/MSNBC/HLN. :D

What local forecasts had you previously been seeing? Because the "new" sampled voice has been around for maybe five years on my cable system.

On DirecTV (when it works), the Local On The *s segment has no voice, just music, graphics are different and more informative. Trouble is, half the time my receiver does not "capture" the data stream even when I leave it on 10 mins before

One question.

-Are you watching in HD? That's a different backend system than SD. The HD voiceover on an IntelliStar 2 (HD) equipped system is actually Cantore. The IntelliStar (SD) system voiceover is Allan Jackson.

If the answer is no, then you had a cable company that for some reason was keeping around an old Weather Star machine. There are two in some degree of circulation, the 4000 and the XL (the images show you what each in its current iteration looks like, as both have gone through considerable graphics updates over their lifespan, *especially* the XL). The 4000 is well over the hill at 22 years old, and the Star XL is now 12.

The 4000 is known for its serious long term degradation.

The local cable company is "upgrading". I guess they are now using the HD signal an feeding it to analog basic system too.

No they just change afternoon's Programming so more shows less Weather other then if have to cover something big like Severe Weather.
