Weather Channel In Letterbox

The Weather Channel is now in letterbox format in SD. Now only CNBC is not in letterbox format for the NBC cable networks.

Technically it's been in letterbox for the last few years, it's just the local weather fills space where the letterbox blank space would usually go (the letterbox is top-focused rather than center-cut). CNBC actually did go letterbox on SD a few months back.

At night CNBC is letterbox in SD but not during business hours when the ticker is going. As for Weather Channel its full SD letterbox now.

Guess it depends on provider then; Charter has it letterboxed full-time using the HD feed. A few providers do ignore framing instructions for networks and zoom things in to keep the few people who whine about the letterboxes happy; a few of my local stations are this way on my system despite having it hard-coded into the frame and utilizing the full 16:9 picture.
