Weather Channel meteorologist Nick Wiltgen killed in car accident

Nick Wiltgen, senior digital meteorologist with the Weather Channel, has died following a traffic accident in Atlanta.

Around 5:30 Sunday, Wiltgen crashed his Volkswagen in a parking garage in Atlanta’s Colony Square Mall, about 10 miles from Weather Channel’s headquarters. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Wiltgen was pronounced dead at the scene after he hit an adjacent hotel and injured another person. Investigators are trying to determine whether he had a medical emergency while driving. Witnesses pulled Wiltgen, 39, out of the car where CPR was attempted.

The Midwest native and University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate had been with the Weather Channel for 15 years. He’d had been tweeting all weekend during the northeast blizzard.
