Weather Channel turns into "Worship Network" on Election Day

Today, other than the local conditions graphics in the bottom third, The Weather Channel decided to "channel" the late 1990's to mid 2000's overnight fare that PAX/i/ION put on the air from "off the bird".

Personally I think the Worship Network did a better job of "scenery television", and I liked their fancy cross network bug in the bottom right of the screen.

To me, what The Weather Channel did was not a good move because people need the national weather coverage. Kudos to WeatherNation for keeping us updated on what's going on outside the polling places today.

It's called "Escape The Election" - Clouds, rainbows, autumn splendor and smooth jazz. No on-screen bible verses or worship music here.

I did like the concept of Worship TV.

It seems the Weather Channel folks have no clue of how to make it doing weather. They seem intent on being anything but weather. Most amazing to me is how they repeat the same shows over and over, many times in the same time slot over and over for weeks on end.

It will be interesting to see if The Weather Channel can affect their ratings by doing this.

They learned the the long form programming didn't work, and have trimmed much of it. Including the weather themed movies.

I am still seeing mostly the same programs on The Weather Channel. Evenings and overnights as well as most of the time on weekends it is non-stop programs and even seeing the weather forecast is rare. I think their problem is 'time spent viewing' in one session. The quicker the audience turns over, the less you can get for a spot. Now with the online options not available when the Weather Channel began, it is tougher to get those numbers up, especially when the weather is mostly good around the country.
