Weather coverage in Northwest Arkanssas

I got a suprise when I ran to the store and ALL the Clear Channel stations had live coverage from KNWA regaurding the storms last night. Yes it was a TV broadcast, but they were informing the listeners about what was going on. I then check the rest and they were doing their normal programming. I noticed that even KFAY was NOT covering the weather at all. That is sad for a news talk station. KURM was running a replay of Party Line that Kermitt does and he normally covers the weather. My hat is off to Clear Channel for the great coverage. It was on all of their stations. Will Cumuless ever get it right?

Seems like you're a CC fanboy.

No, I really don't like Clear Channel. i was just shocked that thye did the coverage like they did. As far as i know it has ever been done.

Here's What I Noticed:

Clear Channel was live with TV coverage.

Cumulus from what I noticed didn't go live with TV but they were doing updates during normal programming.

KURM ignored it.

To the credit of KURM and Cumulus though -- It was a Ft. Smith storm. I think Winslow was the only area affected by the hail and severe storms in the NWA area.

that is true, but I am still amazed Clear Channel did anything, even if it was a TV feed. Magic 107.9 stayed on longer because they cover Ft Smith

Its still sad that the radio stations relied on TV audio feeds for coverage instead of in-studio but that's to be expected in the era of McRadio. The same thing happened down here recently with KARN-FM and KKPT in Central Arkansas. Both stations used TV audio feeds for the bulk of coverage.

You see a station likw KARN should have live people since they are News Talk!! The samething applies to KFAY here. KFAY is a News talk station, but is probably stuck in a closet somewhere in the building with no attention to it at all. That has to be one of the worse run News Talk stations I ever heard. There is nothing local at all on it!! They did nothing both times there were tornados in the area. I hope KARN in Central Arkansas is run a little better.

KFAY-AM is also one of the worst-engineered stations you'll ever hear...when it's on the air.

Legend has it a former P.D. fell out of favor with Cumulus brass over their directive to use the worn-out image line "Depend On It". The P.D. asked the Market Manager for another image line reasoning that they shouldn't say "depend on it" when you can't. This station goes off the air when the wind blows and the so-called chief engineer is inept.

Proof of the dark cloud's stellar ownership comes in their steadfast refusal to maintain their own facilities. That's what you do when all you care about is sucking the dollars out of a market.

It is my fondest wish to see them suck the dollar potential out of it all, too. If they continue on this path..they will.

Ah! Radio and weather coverage!

I recall a day when another DJ (then going by "Joe Nasty") and I covered over 50 severe T-storm/Tornado warnings...actually, I think there were over 100 in the coverage area...but decided to go with modesty.

You just don't find people on the air capable of doing that these days.
