Weather Delay During DEN/JAX Game

I was without access to TV (Just moved & awaiting transfer of cable service) & was forced to catch the game on the radio. While KOA (The flagship radio station for the Denver Broncos Radio Network) bounced back & forth between the studios here in Denver & Jacksonville (I imagine the Jacksonville Jaguars Radio Network did something similar by bouncing back & forth between the studio & the stadium). But I have no clue as to what CBS did.

Did CBS just do a studio show as if it were halftime? Did they switch viewers to another game like they did a few years ago when there was a weather delay during the Raiders/Broncos game (They switched to the Chiefs/Bears game then)? Or what?

Curious minds wanna know ;)

BTW.....For those not in the know, the weather delay started just as the 3rd Quarter ended.

Cheers :D

CBS switched to the Colts/Houston game.

Well, here, I was listening to it over WOKV (the Jags flagship) and they had a little rain-delay talk show. They did one for about 20 minutes, and took calls. I'm assuming that went out over the rest of the network too.

There was lightning and a severe thunderstorm warning in the area.

Why was there a weather delay? Doesn't the NFL normally just tough it out? Pretty unusual, no?

Yes, except where lightning is involved. I was watching the game and there was pretty intense cloud2ground lightning. In that case you do not want anyone on the field.

Thunderstorm delayed the start of Jets MNF in North Jersey too, didn't it? NFL doesn't play through lightning.

Indeed it did, Bill. Locally, WWOR/9 did an extended Jets pre-game show, and Russ Salzberg filled time by airing a media appearance by that woman who the Jets were hootin' and hollerin' over in their locker room.

Nope. I officiate down here in Kentucky and we are taught that if we see a flash of lightning, stop the play and get everyone off the field. A storm 10 miles away can generate lightning strikes in your vicinity.
