Weather Dog

It was only a matter of time until a station somewhere in this area did it. CBS-19 in Tyler has hired a weather dog. A series of promos featuring Doc Deason interviewing the dog has been running for a few days. (As Dave Barry says, "I'm not making this up.")

Doc has thus far done all the talking and asking. More here if the dog begins to respond.

It's also rumored that the dog will be filling in for Deason when he's away, no doubt on the lookout for "ruff" weather.

Things to look out for:
Wagging tail- good weather
laying down, sleeping - hot & humid
jumping and running- snow
standing still- severe storms
barking excessively- commercial break

A management dog? When she makes a bad call, swat her on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

Which paper, the one across the parking lot or the one she doesn't want to admit to from Fort Worth? :) [or even the ghost of the Times-Herald?]

Ugh, I can't believe Phil went _there_ with the weather....unless this is a long-term tie-in with the Tyler SPCA/animal shelter, I don't see this being any more/better than a modern-day J.Fred Muggs thing.

At least he didn't make Mark Rowlett or John Adams (KETK) do any live spots for Alpo a-la the Tonight Show...

One of the tabloids would be fitting.

There's a large "Name the Weather Dog" promo ad in today's (Sunday) newspapers in Tyler and Longview. It's a multiple choice reader response so they won't have to plow through a thousand returns in search of "the name.'
>
The choices are: Toto (gee, we aren't in Kansas anymore?), Stormy, Thunder, Twister, Sunny.

Understand KYKX is getting a weather dog, possibly named Loopy, Dopey, or Sneezey. The way the station is going Dru would get a zebra and name it Spot.
Then we could watch him bond with it.

Nothing like creativity and that's nothing like it. What about Hail or Dust Devil, maybe Drought?

The KYKX weather dog is actually a skunk in keeping with the overall atmosphere and image of the station. It will be named "Dru "LaPew"

Judy Tenuta said it best. "It could happen."

Why doesn't ch.8 just use the Texas Lending.com's dog? He has a real mouth!

"The Bitterness Of Poor Quality Lingers After The Sweetness of Low Price Is Long Forgotten."</P>

One of the station's here in Houston (KPRC Channel 2) had a weather dog for awhile. His name was Radar, and he was on all the newscasts, and when they did the 7-Day Forecast, you would hear Radar bark. It was cute for the first week or so, but after awhile, it just became a laughing stock for KPRC's credibility. The dog became the center of attention for the newscast, and when your weather dog becomes bigger than your Chief Meteorologist, it's not what you want as a legitimate news organization.

A weather dog is a nice promotion, but confine it to one show, like the morning show. Don't go overboard with it like KPRC did. Radar is still around, but they only bring him out once in awhile, and that's a good thing. Even Fox here took a swipe at him in one of their news promos.<P ID="signature">______________
