WEBE Bound - ROBBY BRIDGES LEAVING WCTK - RI Message Board

Has anyone heard this guys previous work? I'm sorry but I'm perplexed and baffled as to how such a critical slot can go to someone only 25 years old. I mean I'm sure he's a nice guy and pretty good at what he does and he would fit in perfectly at stations like Z100, KTU, and The Fox? But WEBE?! How is this is a match?
A) He'll be the youngest DJ at a station that's not intended for his demographic.
B) I'll grant that based on his resume he's not an inexperienced rookie, but he's hardly a long-time seasoned veteran like Peter Bush whom he is replacing.
C) Isn't it going to be jarring going from Storm N Norman, Danny Lyons to Robby Bridges?
D) His on-air companion Ann Rondepierre is old enough to be his mother.

How is this going to work? I repeat I'm sure he's probably a good person and no way would he have gotten the job if he wasn't capable of doing it. I just can't get past the age factor at a station like WEBE 108. I mean for instance no matter how good he might well be if Andy Bale had ever left WHUD he would never have gotten hired at WHUD which is an older-skewing station that relies on sophisticated middle-aged men like Mike Bennett, Tom Furci, and Andy Bale. I just don't know. I think WEBE is making a mistake.

I think not giving somebody a chance based on their age is akin to age discrimination. You haven't even heard him! I'd be willing to bet that if you didn't KNOW he was 25, you'd have no idea just by listening to him. Look at the Long Island boards... there is a thread about WBLI's new music director who is even younger! Yet, he's a music director for a MAJOR MARKET radio station! When someone has talent, it doesn't matter if they are young or old! Now I'm not necessarily saying that Robby is the right choice... I haven't heard him. But I think you should reserve judgement until after you've heard him.

After having heard most of His show Today, He is a great fit for the Station. Robby may be Young but it's to His advantage. You CAN NOT hear ANY age in His Voice. Living in CT I have heard Robby on most of the Stations and Formats He has Worked on (Top 40, Country, Oldies, and Hot AC). He adjusts to his demographic, Something NOT every Jock can do! Robby belogs in NYC. He is one of the best Jocks in the Country. While yes he may be a Killer Top 40 Jock, He can be a killer jock no matter the format. Does ANYONE know John Garabeiadan's REAL age? Ask most of His Listeners they say 30 or they can remember hearing Him when they were Young. The same can be said about someone like Tony Bristol (when He held a regular Airshift). He still sounds like He's 28. We all know they are alot older. Then can still pull off the format. Age just Doesn't matter! (something I am sure the orginal poster will realize in a couple of Years when they realize they are not as Young as they Think!). Honestly I am Jelous of Robby's talents, Yet I can still sing His Praises!

I agree that he's doing an impressive job but at the same time between his hiring and some of the music they're playing I do wonder if WEBE is running away from the audience they've served for years during the Bush era. For instance as I'm typing this right now the song WEBE is playing is Bon Jovi " You Give Love a Bad Name." This is a hard rock heavy-metal song on a pop format. I guess I understand the need to evolve but at the same time WEBE has been number one all these years with their audience coming to expect a certain brand of music just like the similarly styled WHUD in the Hudson Valley. I wonder if all these changes might alienate their audience base just like Z100 would if they suddenly started playing something like Leanne Womack or Josh Groban. We'll see.

I guess you do not listen to WEBE much as Bon Jovi has been in rotation for sometime now. Just because they hired a new jock why would they change the music.
Think about it why would they play with the music if the station is always number 1 ?

(scratchin' head) Does this mean that Paul Harvey is too old for any demo???
