WEBN-FM on the rocks

I think what Imliveontheair is saying is, can't we have personalities on our radio stations? We recognize that, thanks to technology, the DJ doesn't have to be live. But as radio stations get rid of live DJs, they also seem to be getting rid of personality. So often, a live DJ is replaced by nothing. Just prerecorded liners.

It depends on the format. WUBE has live & local personalities. KISS has a lot of local personalities, but they also have Ryan Seacrest, who is a very familiar personality. Old School 100.3 has a lot of personalities, although most are syndicated. The "liners" thing is mainly done by music intensive stations like Jack. Those formats are based on music, not personality. So when we talk about personality, it is very much oriented around the format. There is no one-size-fits-all thing, and truthfully, there never was. There were stations that did liners in the 1970s. Most of them were beautiful music stations. Today a lot of AC stations have replaced those old beautiful music stations, so their approach is very similar. But other formats incorporate some form on personality in their presentation.
