WEBO 107.9 HD/FM

Anyone notice changes with WEBO 1330 AM? The 107.9HD/FMtranslator has moved to the site on Bornt Hill (where WLTB has it's 102.5 translator located) and boasts more power than 102.5... not that they are related anymore...but the power difference is noticeable and the signal is stronger around the Binghamton area now for 107.9, where previously you could only get 107.9 at 200 watts closer to Owego. Sounds like a low bitrate stream as far as audio quality. IS IT IN HD?

Hey guys,

We were using a Barix Instreamer/Exstreamer as an STL to the FM until we got our microwave path setup at the new tower on Bornt Hill. The microwave system has been up for a few weeks now. No more bitrate issues, popping, sputtering, dropping out, or unbalanced audio. It is crystal clear now, with no delay between the AM and FM anymore. We now use the Barix boxes as a backup-only STL and private listen line.

On the power output, its actually less power out at Bornt Hill than it was at Carmichael, but we gained several hundred feet of ground elevation and now have line of sight into Binghamton and Owego. We also have horizontal and vertical polarization towards Bing, but only vertical polarization towards Owego. The signal travels east to Windsor now, and west to Wiliwana. We are limited to the east by the 2 m/V contour of our AM, but could fill out more to the east with a better (more expensive) antenna. Someday perhaps....

Thanks for listening,

Dave

It sounded great to me on Saturday night... I got it all the way from Wilawana to home in JC. It's kind of neat to be able to get an FM stereo station as a 'repeater' to your AM.

It sure beats the days at Delaware Ave, when we would power down the Gates to 50 watts at sunset. We had to switch the monitor to 'board' because the signal wouldn't make it back to Endicott.

I'm glad this station came back to life in recent years. I used to talk with Dave Frost about how it would have been great to make WEBO a 'local' station again.
