WEBO

I wish you "bashers" of AM radio would have listened to WEBO tonight for a top notch Halloween program that would fit into any large market in the USA. I also think y'all should give a listen to WEBO during the day because they are blowing the tops off the local stations with the programming they offer. God bless Dave Radigan and RIP Tom Noonan. Former WEBO personality (1973-1983)... Joe Bloomer Oldies/Jazz shows and news.

Not a basher here... My posts may be mostly about FM, but I love DXing the AMs at night on the old analog car radio!

I used to listen to the 50K stations at night when I was going to sleep. One late night in 1994 I called WOWO in Ft. Wayne IN. I got recorded on their request line, and I taped the segment on my boom box in my Endicott apartment!

Sadly, they were purchased in the mid 90s and resold for the purpose of downgrading the 50K signal so it would lose its 'clear-channel' status. (For you young-uns, that means a "clear" dial position in the USA, NOT the name of a broadcasting company...)

I still like talk radio, (non-political) and Art Bell is my friend in the wee hours when I can't sleep.

I do check out WEBO from time to time. I'm glad they have taken the station in a positive direction.

When I worked for back then Power 101, I had to run WEBO. This experience gained me great respect for AM radio. I'm glad it's still around.

Affectionately known as "Green Machine"... You had to love those carousel cart decks, and programming the automation on the clunky keypad!

I found my "Power 101" tee shirt the other day, still in great shape.

Who's bashing AM?
People do listen to AM. The station that I program, 1430 The Team, consistantly shows up in the Arbitron ratings, usually in first or 2nd place in our target demo (men 25-54) among the Binghamton Market AM stations.

Envious you have the shirt, bro. We had a great crew back then...Tejay, me, Tad, Ellen (what happened to them???)

I still haven't figured out who you are.

Tad and Ellen were gone way before Power 101... I started in November 1993, (it was still known as "WGRG 101") and the only thing left from Tad was a couple of small post-it notes about programming 'green machine', with his initials at the bottom, "TP". The "Power" label began in mid 1994 as CHR, then Hot A/C ("Binghamton's #1 Hit Music Station") and lasted as the name of the alternative format ("The Newest & Coolest Music") until the format flip in mid 1997.

I only knew Ellen from classes at BCC, and heard both her and Tad on WAAL in the late 80s (CHR days) I never actually met Tad in person... only spoke with him on the phone a couple of times. I do not know where either of them are now. I'm also not a Facebook guy, so I'm not as up-to-date as others may be.

Does anyone have airchecks of the alt format? And wasn't it later on 1330 AM as "The Web?"

Not sure if anybody has airchecks from the alternative format, but you are correct about 1330 The Web. When I started in 1997, we were simulcasting the FM on the AM. I think it was March 1998 when we put the wave station computer in, and started running alternative music on WEBO. No jocks, just music, stabs, commercials, and the occasional weather forecast. That ran until Steve sold the station in the spring / summer of 2000 ( can't remember the exact month ). All I remember was a running joke from former WMRV jocks that I work with, from their AM stereo days....If you hate us on FM, you'll really hate us on AM...HA!

I remember a quirk with WEBO on the alternative music format was that only 1 of the stereo channels was wired to the air chain, so when a song with hard panned audio played, you only heard the audio that was on that channel.
