WEBR Hit With $1 Million Lawsuit

Such big titles invoked in that article. Makes that operation sound like a Fortune 500 company.

From the article:
"She is seeking at least $1 million in damages for each of ten causes of action, plus punitive damages, attorney fees, unpaid overtime wages, interest, civil penalties and fines. The defendants have not yet replied to the complaint."

So she's suing for at least 10 MIL? That station was bought in 2020 for 60k!

Interestingly, there's a certain very prominent oddball personality still on-air in town, who has created plenty of similar legal exposure over the years for his very large nationwide employer. Amazing no lawsuits ever materialized against the guy.

There's another thread that claimed Chief Operating Officer (another fancy title for this tiny station) Dave Gillen resigned a few months ago. He is accused of "inappropriate touching". It's reasonable to assume that he knew this was coming down and took the exit offramp...

Bought for 60K, I don't see how the the station is worth $1 million dollars, but the article also says she worked for the taxi company too. Maybe that's where the money is?

I don't think the value of the station itself is relevant to the lawsuit. Her lawyers came up with the amount of damages they are seeking. She's making a lot of serious accusations against multiple people at both organizations, but probably won't get anything close to those numbers...

I agree, but when you sue someone, or an entity, how much they are worth is definitely related to how much you can collect. That's why you usually go after the person with deep pockets. I concur, 10 million is probably just wishful thinking.

How much revenue could there possibly be at WEBR? 🤭

Take Tom Darro and his Niagara Falls commercials out of the mix and annual station revenue could probably be measured in pennies.

When looking at profit, it’s a fun hobby for the owner and tax write-off for the taxicab company.

In other words, it’s a big money-loser.

WEBR had a COO?!? 🤣 Now that’s really funny!

The radio station has like five listeners and makes less money than a kid’s lemonade stand. The entire radio station was bought for the price of a car and the one guy who’s being accused of repeated inappropriate sexual conduct expects to be called a Chief Operating Officer?

Who is David Gilien?

It seems like an example of someone with an overblown ego, narcissistic tendencies and a distorted sense of self-importance. That’s a perfect recipe for one’s downfall.

Innocent until proven guilty, but wow!

And why does an owner of a taxicab company, buy a radio station?

He must be a pretty big deal, like David Gilien.

Roch989, you lost all credibility with me in not even knowing how to spell Dave Gillen’s name. Your meme fell flat! It’s not funny! To those of us who know Dave, these allegations are not a laughing matter. The Dave Gillen I know has contributed so much to Buffalo broadcasting. He was the longtime president of the Buffalo Broadcasters Association. Under his leadership, the BBA professionalized its operations. TV film from the 1960s began to be digitized. Dave developed a protocol for selecting members to the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame that is used to this day. And more than anyone, Dave has spent countless hours working on establishing a museum to celebrate Buffalo‘s broadcasting, sports and music history. Yes, I am troubled by these allegation. But you should have stopped at “innocent until proven guilty.” For me, I’m prepared to wait for this to make its way through the court system before passing judgement. I sympathize with Laura for having to go through what I read about in this article. But posts like yours, Roch989, are unnecessarily incendiary.

As someone wishing to stick with the facts, I would note that Gail Ann Huber, the morning show host, is no longer with the station. Bob Stilson has taken over in AM drive. John Anthony was filling Stilson’s slot today from 3-6pm. Anthony mentioned a new afternoon drive host will take over starting this Thursday. He described it as a “surprise.” Stay tuned! Also, Barry Lillis, who was supposed to be hosting 10am-12noon after the new year, is not listed on the station’s web page as doing so. Barry is still appearing as host of the Sunday morning Great American Sound Book show from 7-10am.

Thank you for response. The news story said “Dave Gilien.” That is where the name came from. I don’t know him. You are correct. I should have stopped at innocent until proven guilty. Sometimes people who have done all the things you mentioned make mistakes and sometimes they are falsely accused. The meme was put up because I thought for the size of the station that the title was overblown.I was trying to be funny but what do I know. Not much.

The pretty ballz-Zee text with the user id
Roch989 -- makes me think you may be one half of the buzz morning show that got fired, and then double downed and canned a second time. . . because you followed up your post with a backhanded apology makes me think you're the make host of the pair.

I will stand by my freely spoken comments
and tell you who I am
Eric Vee. The dG I know made wkse a real radio station back in the day. cheers

From the article:

So she's suing for at least 10 MIL? That station was bought in 2020 for 60k!

Interestingly, there's a certain very prominent oddball personality still on-air in town, who has created plenty of similar legal exposure over the years for his very large nationwide employer. Amazing no lawsuits ever materialized against the guy.

Would that “prominent oddball personality” that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen have the initials “TB.” I have never met the man but have hea

Would the “prominent oddball personality” and lawsuit waiting to happen go by the initials of “TB?”

I have never met the man, but I have heard many lawsuit-worthy stories over the years.
