WEBSITE TO HELP IDENTIFY RADIO STATIONS

DXers check out this website: www.fmscan.org

It has MW, FM, SW and TV lists (TV is not that good and they admit that on the site).

Make sure the signal parameters are set to 0dB or the weak signal stations you're
trying to figure out won't display on the list. Some of the database is out of date, so
cross check if in doubt (radio-locator.com, www.fcc.gov, www.tvradioworld.com,
World Radio TV Handbook, etc.) You may need to experiment with Expert Options
in order to get the list you're looking for.

Happy DXing!

One one hand, I can see how it can be helpful, however I notice with my location (Tampa) how many regular stations are missing from the list, like WFAN, WOR, WABC, WCBS, KOA, WBT. And then, there are stations listed that I've never heard or even thought possible to receive that are listed, for example WWJZ 640 from Mount Holly N.J. ? Is this a site where anyone can add stations to themselves or is it restricted?

Yes, I noticed there are some inconsistencies with the generated list. For example, when I input my city, Chicago, and the radius is set to 3000kM, I get KFI and KDWN on my
list, but not WBZ or WOR. If you're getting only Germany, you didn't change the low end frequency to 530kHz, so you must have seen Long Wave stations in the beginning of
the list and/or most likely the location was not changed to your location. The default location must be be Germany (after all, that's where the website was designed)

Are those of you using fmscan.org using Expert Options / Change Parameters? That should clear up many of the problems, at least it did for me. Reading through the [Help]
(Click on it in the upper right hand corner of the webpage) may give some ideas why the site does not work for certain searches. I had to experiment with the settings in
Expert Options / Change Parameters a number of times before I could get the list I was looking for. Too bad radio-locator doesn't do international searches! I found an
email address on another part of the website [email protected] Perhaps anyone who has questions could send them there to Ulrich.

About submitting changes: They do allow changes to be submitted on their website, once you are registered with them.

This is from their website: http://fmlist.org/ul_login.php?sprache=en

LIST: Why register?

Registration is and will remain FREE

Only registered users have access to ALL functions and features of FMLIST: Download of up-to-date files for RDSDX, display of locations on various map
systems incl. GoogleEarth, personal configuration settings, creating and maintaining your bandscans and logbooks, a.s.o.

Only registered users can report corrections, new stations and modifications, which will then be included in FMLIST, with full credit to the notifier.
Using the information in the User list, you can get in touch with the editors and all other registered users.

Hope this helps!
