WEBY 1330 Milton-Pensacola

What's the story with the CP to lower daytime power from 25,000 watts to 6250 watts?

Can't afford the electricity? Maybe planning to add a translator or two and don't think they need 25kw anymore?

I think you're confusing their STA to run on a single tower at lower power -- due to a tractor-caused grass fire, from what I read -- with their application to return to full-power 3-tower operation, but with different parameters resulting in a slightly relaxed pattern.

Makes sense to trim things up if you have to rebuild the system anyway.

I didn't know they were on reduced power because of equipment issues.

Garçon Point's always on fire. They didn't plan ahead and cut a fire line around the towers? WRNE's never had problems with fire over on Garçon Point... or have they?

I was co-builder of WRNE and did virtually all of the antenna proof when they moved from bayou Chico in the 1980's. That site is very swampy and large amountsmof fill material had to be brought in to build the transmitter building pad as well as the towers. I also recall that the origonal tower constrution contractor was killed when he tried to use the load line to begin the day's work. Naturally, in 30 years things can change but unless there was a record breaking drought, or the water flow was changed somehow, that site has a low chance of a grass fire.

Due to its "dampness" and location, it had a somewhat better signal that the other stations I proofed in that area during those years.

Looking at this:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=WEBY&x=0&y=0&sr=Y&s=C

the coverage area doesn't seem to be effected

-Rob

Are we looking at the same maps? Of course coverage is affected--look at the red/inside (5 mV) contour. With 25K it easily encompasses the entire urban area, but with 6.2K it misses a neighborhood or two in lovely, picturesque & historic northwest Pensacola.

At the same time, these guys aren't really depending on ratings--or even having an audience--to sell spots. WEBY is about perception and positioning... and the effectiveness of local, direct salesmanship. It's all about a smile & a shoeshine... good looks & charm!

I still say they should move down to 550 (since that's still dead, and probably will be forever) and reduce power to say 10K, at least they can be active 24/7 on 550

I don't like daytimers that well. There's shows at night we can't hear. The signal booms here during the day. At night, it's crap

That is why they call it a daytimer.

and there's shows on at night the rest of us can't hear, kinda of a bummer!

Rob,

They stream at http://www.1330weby.com.

We have a 1330 in Tallahassee (5,000 watt daytimer) so we can't pick it up here. Tallahassee's news/talkers are both on FM. AM in Tallahassee is dead.

WEBY can't move to 550 because of 540 in the Mobile market. WASG's .25 mv/m contour crosses into Pensacola. Your .5 mv/m contour can't cross your first adjacent channel's .25 mv/m

I assume 1330 WEBY was DA-D because of 1330 Tallahasee to a minor degree, and 1340 Valparaiso/Niceville to a greater degree. Isn't the latter station now silent? If so that would enable WEBY to simplify their DA. As for the suggestion it move to the now-vacated 550, I think that is precluded by the fact that it did not go away entirely - it moved to Daphne AL and dropped to adjacent channel 540.

On a similar note. I've been wondering what WRNE could do once the WTOT 980 license in Mariana gets deleted?

I've also heard WEBY running daytime power at night recently. I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

Alex,

That may be possible. 1330 Tallahassee is 5000 watts day, 500 watts pre-sunrise. They are nondirectional with a 231 foot tower. WCVC is still on the air. Not sure about Niceville's 1340 status.

Finally looked it up. 1340, the old WFSH, is deleted.

Here some AM Stations that you may get during the daytime.
WDAE-620 Tampa, WWBA-820 Tampa, WHBO-1040 Tampa, WMGG-1470 Tampa. and AM-760 Tampa
