WECQ QUESTIONS

Longest Thread

It appears this thread can claim the title for "longest duration and posts," having surpassed the record set by previous WKBW-WWKB threads. There's one for the books!

Some might say that these guys should "Get a (chat) room". Those with voyeuristic tendencies just look on and appreciate. Those without can easily ignore the thread.

Carry on, WECQers. You don't mind if the rest of us laugh at those bad '80s haircuts that are so reminiscent of our own past fashion foibles, do you?

...surprised that this thread hasn't been busted for exessive public display of affection... c'mon Q-Crew, spill some dirt... dalliances, holiday party indiscretions, mingling and cavorting... a guy like John Roberts alone would probably have ohhhhh... a few good stories... heh, heh, heh... you wild and crazy boys and girls!

SOOOO many stories--I wouldn't know where to begin, but I'll try at some point. And I think I may have some airchecks laying around. I'll dig thru my archives.

Here are two mores names for the pot

1. Short lived PD Steve Reynolds who left us in the lurch for WHAM. No notice and he snuck around, The funny part is that one of my old friends Larry Conti was the Manager. He called me to ask about Steve. I said don't tell him you know me,. So once Steve started at WHAM , on my prompting, Larry said to Steve: " I didn't know that you worked for my best friend Dave Weinfeld. Larry called to say that Steve turned white and thought he was going to get canned. We got our pound of flesh and then we got Pat Gillen.

2 Salesman Mark Mothersell. (I think John Hogan hired him) He was a slight guy with wire glasses. looked more like a Science teacher than a radio salesman. With the name Mothersell we thought he would be good. No comment...can't win them all.

You ladies and gentlemen have recalled some interesting times here, but some of the posts would seem to be a better fit for email and instant messenger, no?

How would others find this discussion and join in if we were using e-mail and IM?

It seems to me this is exactly what an Internet forum is for.

Don't worry about it. If people get bored with this thread there are others they can look at.

alright, since we beginning to dredge more names....how about Paul Mcarthur? Did overnights.....for a short time. Until I heard one of his lengthy bits at 2am. He was convinced the coffee machine was possessed by aliens and did these rambling discussions on the air about being afraid to leave the control room and walk past the coffee machine. Turns out it wasn't really a bit......I think he was a true believer.
Oh well..overnights are er were tough. Who has an overnight jock these days?

I think Mark Casti repaced Paul. Very sad that not too many years after that Mark passed away.

Another short timer was Dr. Dave, did mornings briefly, what a nut. Brought about 200 carts with sound effects and music beds to work with him....and had no concept of timing. First morning on the he didn't get to Patty Blues 7AM news cast until at 7:45...man was she P.O'd
I think we had the good sense to hire Mike Smith for mornings after that. Is that right Mike?

Dr Dave had to suddenly take a gig in Indiana leaving me stuck to pay the rent and ended up losing the securty deposit on a house rented on Seneca Lake.

That's right Randy - Though I think I was doing overnights when Dr Dave left. I think Mark took my overnight slot. I remember he and I would do some - um - 'improvements' to equipment, with a lot of the planning in the wee hours. Much to Danny's chagrin.

Casper - didn't you do overnights for a while?

Yes--I did overnights from '83 to mid '84, then midday news, then morning news with you. And Mark (Casty) and I went our for 5 years, so when he was hired doing weekend overnights, I'd come hang out with him & sleep on the couch. He was only 28 when he died. Miss him everyday. He was such a good guy.
I remember the first time I ever played IN-X-S on CQ--never heard of them before & called them INXS instead of IN-X-S. He never let me forget that one--we laughed about it til he died--I still do!

Who was Gongaware's newsman? He was excellent. Didn't stay too long and later He was doing news for the Chrisian Science Network in Boston.

I remember he was legally blind and could't drive. I had an aircheck somewhere of the two.
