Wednesday Night at the Memories Recollections

Recently, in Chicago, John "Records" Landecker was moved into the evening slot at WLS-FM which created quite a stir among Chitown radio listeners as it resulted in another legend, Dick Biondi shifting to overnights. I've checked out Landecker's presentation the last coupke nights. Pretty typical of what you'd expect these days that has swallowed up a number of one time radio greats that haven't gone the infomercial route like the Geator, or Hyski, who probably couldn't get to the web fast enough. The music is the star. Guys like Landecker, or Ted "Bear" Richards, a one time absolute great at CKLW get rehired because of their name, and are subjected to the modern day programmers, who if I complain about, would join me with 25,000 other truth speakers. Richards not too long ago (2 years) had a seemingly unceremonius return to Detroit behind the CBS oldies microphones.

All I can say is that if you ran unscoped air checks of Landecker doing his Wednesday Night at the Memories Wibbage presentation from the late 60s or early 70's, on WLS-FM, in my no doubt age prejudiced view, it'd crack a lot more indentation in the way other media have stolen the radio audience in modern times.

I know it gets old, but I miss personality radio. My memory, perhaps ironically, has a fonder rememberance of Landecker doing WNATM than when he did Americana Panorama, but if the guy's doing more than collecting a check now, it's a surprise to me. At least Terry "Motormouth" Young seems like he's having fun at Sirius.
