The show was really great! Definitely one for the archives.
Which now begs the question -- was there a station out there, anywhere, that carried ALL SIX (Oprah, Donahue, Ricki, Sally, Montel and Geraldo) at one time?? Or how about FIVE of the six?? Or FOUR of the six??
At one point, Oprah was rubbing it in that she remained #1 during all of their runs when they competed against her. But she said, there were short periods when one of them beat her show in ratings. For Oprah, the purpose has to come back down to her.
Montel seemed a bit angry against celebrities that have stopped supporting the troops.
Actually, I'm not sure of the purpose of the show, besides ratings. It seemed Oprah wanted their perspectives of how it is like after leaving the job.
But Sally was cancelled - she didn't leave the air voluntarily, Donahue to some extent also. Oprah will still be busy with her cable network, so it wasn't that similar.
On your question:
I think there was a short time when WPVI aired
9am Donahue
10am AM Philadelphia
10:30 Sally Jessy Raphael
11:30 Home (1st 1/2 half only)
4:00 Oprah
12:05am Jenny Jones
1:05am Ricki Lake
WPVI later dropped Donahue and Sally, at the time those shows were losing popularity, and KYW picked the 2 talk shows. WPVI upgraded Jenny and Ricki to AM positions respectively, Jenny at 9, Ricki at 10:30.
The following year Rosie O'Donnell show was picked up, which replaced the Carnie Wilson show (which never aired on WPVI), and the next year, Regis & Kathie Lee moved from WCAU to WPVI. Within a couple of years, WPVI and WABC had the exact AM lineups.
Jenny moved to Channel 17, Ricki to WTXF 29. WPHL's daytime format went from Gilligan's Island reruns to a Jenny/Jerry Springer format. When WTXF picked up Ricki Lake, it was advertised "Ricki Rocks Fox" and Ricki aired at 5pm, similar to WWOR's UPN 9 slot, her flagship outlet. However, 29 didn't keep Ricki at 5pm for some reason very long.
