WEDO Radio

In this economic climate I can't imagine anyone with half a brain would touch the place at any price outside of a religious station or a non-profit. They might be better donating it to the McKeesport School District or Penn State Greater Allegheny and walking away with the tax deduction.

Does anyone know who's brokering the sale of WEDO?

Media Services Group is the broker. Still asking 1.75 in their posting - but I am sure that is negotiable.

If memory serves, WZUM sold for $400,000 (admittedly in better economic times). I think WEDO, which has a better signal and is profitable, probably is worth around twice as much, or half of what they're asking for it now. Of course WZUM had a minimal nighttime signal, something 810 is unlikely to obtain.

I may be the patron saint of lost causes, but I also think WEDO could be something more than it is now. Making enough money to service a million-dollar debt, however, could be a challenge.

I agree it's a good enough signal that there certainly should be more possibilities than what they're doing now, which seems to be dominated by some local oldies folks buying time and selling their own spots, but that asking price is just insane.

Someone metioned a large amount of land at their transmitter site. What tangible assets does WEDO have other than a license and a transmitter? Do they own ton of great audio equipment? Is their land worth much?

I once knew a guy who paid almost half a million dollars for a broken-down, one-room shack. It came with 20 acres of prime commercial real estate.

WEDO's Tower is at the end of a dead end street in North Versailles, I can't see the land being worth much. Their Tower was cut down a few years back, It was also the Original CP Application for 98.3 to move from Charleroi Washington county to Duquesne Allegheny county.

I was told that the only thing worth any money was the tower site land, the physical tower and the station license. The transmitters are so old they should have retired them years ago to save money on electric and tubes alone.

Land is minimal, studio is rented, equipment is older, but well-maintained. They have a fairly state-of-the-art main studio board, and to my knowledge they have Adobe Audition in the production studio, but for the most part, they're still using carts.

WEDO is worth $300,000 tops. WAVL in Apollo is worth $150,000. WESA, WCVI, perhaps $100,000 and WASP a bit higher.

Anyone that pays more than that for any of them, in this economy and their revenues (if any) is crazy.

Owners that purchase these and destroy them, or do nothing to increase their values, need to wake up and realize that they will continue to sit on these, until some dummy gives them closer to what they want.
