WEED 1390 AM - Rocky Mount - Back to Spanish?

Hi all! I do not get WEED so well here in Roanoke Rapids, because we have a local station on 1400. A few days ago, I was scanning the dial, and through the hash, I was hearing Spanish Praise and Worship and I THOUGHT I heard a sweeper ID'ing it was "Radio Fe' (Faith Radio). Are they back to full-time Spanish (this time with Christian programming)...or is it 'part-time' brokered programming.

In the pre-96.9 La Ley days, I did news and some production for them on the weekends, when they were 'La Pantera'. Ricardo Rodgriguez, who programmed it at the time (this would have been around 1989), did a pretty good job with it considering he had ancient studio equipment and probably close to a zero budget to work with. It seemed they were making a few bucks with the Latino programming and actually grew quite an audience for WEED at the time. Whether it's some type of Spanish programming...or something else, it would be great for someone to finally do something productive with that signal. It's not a bad 5kw signal. With 96.9 being very clear in Rocky Mount, a well-executed Spanish Christian format, or something like a 'clasicas' (oldies) format may be a good alternative to 96.9.

I was in Rocky Mount during the weekend visiting family and check out the station, i'm not surprised they
recently changed formats(again!) and this time they are trying "urban gospel", when i listened Saturday
morning they had a pastor from a church called "Praise City"(that's the name!) on US 301, doing a "live"
local show, and he's also on Sunday mornings as well, the quality sounds good, i thought before now
Northstar Broadcasting, which also owns WRSV "Soul 92", would have went in this direction, but with
the number of christian stations in the area, how long will it last before WEED changes or sold?

I believe he is the same pastor that I catch some weekday mornings. I haven't caught the name of the show or the church. However, I have heard a mention of Highway 301 and to hear him talk, it sounds like a really big church. I agree with the move to Urban Gospel. I thought it would have happened before now, I don't see how it will work with 107.3's Gospel format. They seem to be doing quite well.

WCPS-AM in Tarboro has created a niche for themselves with a Southern Soul/Classic R&B Mix. With WRSV doing so well for so long with an Urban format, I would have thought Northstar would have done something similar (to WCPS) with WEED. It is a real shame to see that good signal really going to waste.

Apparently, "Radio Fe" is a brokered program. I heard it again over the weekend.

I just saw on Wikipedia (I fixed the articles for WEED and WCPS to reflect their current formats) that WEED has much lower power at night. I distinctly remember hearing WEED fight with WCSC in Charleston, SC in the 80s in the western part of NC.
