WEEI-Back to the same

Listening to Mustard and Johnson this morning, it sounded like they are back to their old shows -- same "celebrity" callers, calling at the same time, with the same schtick. Does this mean more Larry Johnson on the Big Show? I know that EEI has made some positive changes (shorter breaks), but when I tune in and hear Butch Stearns on Thursday, and this today, I really do question the thought process there. I'm listening to 98.5 more and more, because at least I'm hearing something different, as opposed to Ordway picking up on a co-host's insight and then pretending as if he knew it along. WEEI -- "We're Entrophied Entertainment Inc."

When WEEI was on 590 and was a talk station with the likes of Gene Burns and Paul Benzaquin, their slogan was : "We entertain every idea".

It starting to seem that way. It's as if they were on there best behavior for a while and now the drill is over. Mustard and Johnson are easy enough to avoid on weekends, especially now that there's an alternative, but I get really annoyed when Lame Larry screws up the Big Show. The same can be said for Butch Stearns, Steve Burton and Fred Smerlas(though Smerlas does know football.....he just interrupts too much).

There are a lot of people out of work. How do the likes of Mustard and Johnson stay on the payroll?

Now that the Sox are over I haven't had WEEI on for more than 10 seconds. This morning just because I hate myself I put D&C on for 5 seconds and it reminded me why I only listen to Toucher and Rich or O&A on XM. It's nice to have a sports talk station and not once hearing Frank from Gloucester, or Mike from Canton.

Why Musty & Brainless on the weekends??? It's all 'eei can afford. They work for peanuts if that. With the big bucks tied up in the big 5 "talents" and their ad revenues down (as it is across the industry), there's no money to spend on weekends. Why else are D&H doing the football show??

It's like the Sox spent all their budget on a few high priced players, and can't afford more good players and a decent bench. All this is great news for 98.5 as it will give them a chance to establish a strong foothold despite Tanguay and Shank.

I noticed yesterday that the 4 O'Clock "hour" on the Big Show started at 4:18. I guess that one month's ratings was enough to dismiss 98.5 as any threat. If Larry Johnson starts making regular appearances we'll know for sure.

Whatever happened to the collaboration with ESPN that was announced a couple of weeks back? I though that they were going to take over weekends and overnights.

BTW rib00, I also noticed that rap kills brain cells, especially the ones that control spelling, punctuation, grammar, and weekend radio programs.

I seriously doubt that they've been completely dismissed. OTOH, a brand new station with no content and retread hosts has a long way to go to build that content and establish whether or not their personalities are worth listening to. Other than the usual sampling of a new station by listeners, any sort of complete inversion between WEEI's and WBZ-FM's ratings will be in the long term, not the short, if it ever happens.
